It's not covered here , but in the story they mentioned that even if the saints died they would get immediately replaced by the goddess. In their eyes the saints are disposable and thanks to their location they never had to deal with misama before.(Saintesses usually never leave the palace which means that their country is always purified due to their close proximity unlike everyone else who have homelands where the presence of saints has an immediate and noticeable improvement. ) Everyone else is considering that the goddess can stop doing so whenever she wants which makes taunting the god of their universe via mistreating her saints a horrible idea.

Damn, hearing that they want their family returned in exchange gets me teared up.

What fucking morons those two royals are. You're a prince and a princess and you're criticizing the saintesses who are essentially responsible for keeping the world safe? Are you seriously lacking self-awareness to the degree that you make these comments while ignoring the fact you're waited on hand and foot? Even though it's obviously not the case, why wouldn't it make sense that people more important than you are the same?

They should have asked for all the magic stones their country bought from the saints since their fucking economy is basically made possible cause of those stones.
The kingdom probably wouldn't like to know that their economy was in the shitter cause their royalty disrespected their primary effing suppliers >:/

@MegaXL Unfortunately the reason they act of arrogant is because of where they are located is one of the few of the places currently not effected by the miasma. Basically they are like people who don't see the need for firefighters because even if the rest of the world is on fire they're doing just fine. Short sighted, cause the fire(miasma) will engulf them too if left unchecked.

It's funny how those royals see the otherworlders as peasants, when we should consider them to have a higher status than all the kings and rulers of said world.

I agree that for the main characters, they feel the need to earn their own living based on their past experience of their work life but when they came to this new world, they were given a job: to purify the miasma. It may feel like they don't actually have to work particularly hard but it is still a job and they are being compensated by this world by covering their living expenses plus allowance.
That is not a hand out, which is what those nobles frame it as.
The MCs downplay this purification role and say that they use the money they earn themselves from selling stones or producing food items. If that is what they are interested in pursuing, good for them but they use those examples to prove they are not bums. This clearly tells me that they view the task of purification of miasma is not a 'real' job but those other pursuits are 'real' jobs. In a way it seems like they agree with the stuck up nobles.
It also reinforces the idea that whatever they do is not enough, they have to overcompensate to prove their worth which I don't agree with.

@stunfire the purification happens automatically, they don't need to do anything at all, they are like plants that take in carbon dioxide, and release oxygenated air, that isn't a job. The inland nobles could make a good case for just putting the Saint in a coma, and wheeling her around to all the troublesome miasma filled areas, if that was all they needed, and they probably had at some point. The saint's fund is taken from taxes and donations, you are basically saying that they shouldn't worry about work, because they are receiving welfare money.

@Chrana what makes you think the last saint didn't last long, she was from sixty years ago (Earth time) and was still around up until a few months ago?
