tbf, I feel like this series is thematically exploring the shades between outright abusive relationships (like the one between Hase and Io) and healthy bdsm relationships.Trying to find a bdsm yuri series that handles consent responsibly challenge:
Misa and Io's relationship sort of occupies the middle ground between those two poles, and I think that positions the story to explore the issue of what meaningfully constitutes abuse within a relationship based on an informal dom/sub dynamic. Their interactions are shaped by what feels right to them in the moment, and neither of them really seem to have a grasp on bdsm scene culture. On one hand Io definitely views her relationship with Misa as desirable and positive, but on the other, their personalities interact in a way where Io might ultimately end up trading one abuser for another.
The writing is why I appreciate Flowerchild's stories, they're toxic as hell, but I think there's a deeper thoughtfulness to the writing.
