Man, I cannot NOT comment on the references on the end of the chapter...
Totally hilarious as a whole, but I feel the need to correct the Greek that appears there.
Ιστορίε should probably be Ιστορίαι, even though I couldn't find a work of such a name by Aristotle.
Ευμενες οφ Καρδια is basically a letter by letter transliteration from English, there is no word οφ in Greek. Cringily funny! That should be Ευμένης ο Καρδιανός.

I'm happy someone called this out! I specifically just used a Latin to Greek transliterator instead of actually translating the title. The first one is Historie, which is a manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki where Aristotle is an important side character, and the second is Eumenes of Cardia, which is the main character of Historie. Plutarch did write about him!

I also read that manga, it's really good. I'm just sad that it's ön hiatus right now.

Things moved fast, when war already seemed certain. The shaman found out of nowhere another tribe to bolster their ranks decimated by the epidemic, and used it to serve his narrative.

And even if we know he's right to be wary of colons, even if we can tell he's right to be thorough enough to get rid of not only the Nords but their things too, not everyone will see the bigger picture.

Self-interest. Greed. Opportunism. The same constant hindering any collective endeavour. Same issues his enemy Thornfinn had to deal with.

Hilde was somehow robbed twice of her chance to prevent the war with one shot. I don't see anything useful with this method now, so it's pretty dire when Thorfinn's utopic ways now have the only shot to entangle that mess.

I think he should use the little insight they got from the report on Markland. Helping the Lnu to quell and maybe stop the disease would be good to clear the slate.

... But once again, all it would take would be a simple guy pointing out that it did come from the Nords for fingers to be pointed at others again.

Welp. Better luck next time, Karli will go far! That's the only thing left at this point, hoping the next generation will take up the dream and carry it a little further. Thors made a warrior out of his son, who convinced even more people that kindness was the way.

It clearly isn't a total victory, but it comes with renouncing to see the world through violence. Success is much more subtle.

I love this story but I disagree with Thorfinn's pacifist philosophy; so I am interested to see how the author resolves this while also maintaining his beliefs. I personally think Thorfinn is just gonna run away.

Thorfinn gets to be an idealist, which is always a nice position to be in for yourself.
Of course he keeps ignoring that his ideals can only work in total isolation and/or literally everyone in the world agreeing to it. (because I don't believe he's stupid, so she just HAS to understand this) Or of course in one has to be in total acceptance of not being able to defend from outsiders, like the Tuatha'an in Wheel of Time, who would happily die before even touching a weapon.

Thorfinn knows about the disease spreading right? So why would he think it a good idea to come within close proximity to the natives again, even if he has good intentions?

I really appreciate the Karli/Cordelia dialogue. Growing up I always could sense when adults were lying to me, and never understood why people think it’s best to lie to children and keep them in a world of fantasy only to let them later be shocked and unprepared for reality.

No I don't believe so, they were never were able to confirm that the Lnu tribe on Prince Edward Island/Epekwitk have contracted disease, even if it's a safe assumption. They just know that they are vulnerable to infection (like the Markland natives), but they are still trying to get the bare minimum information of their current status.

Gudrid saying Thorfinn will decide the baby's name if it's a boy after he returns screams death flag to me but could also be a red herring.

It's because children grow up too fast, and you can only be one once, still, I agree, that the fact that they are children is no justification to treat them like they are dumb or immature. These come from experience, it doesn't matter how old or young you are.

best tl note I've ever read. I'm truly impressed, was funny and at the same time it made some great points between the irony
