Eh I don’t know if that’s really the case always, I see it similar to war, if your life is threatened and your only real option is to kill, you will likely take it to save yourself.

In this case she clearly overpowered them so there wasn’t really any reason to feel threatened given why I feel she’s retained her modern morals.

Not to say that killing someone once for self defence = fine with killing, but if the whole world runs that way, you’d likely conform to it for self preservation.

I think most isekai protags have some kinda scene which makes them realize they need to change to live, even if it’s not super in-depth, it’s quite rare for a isekai protag to be the one to kill unprompted.

Most people who kill in self-defense then have a lot of mental issues due to killing someone, really good for evolution to be that way.

Yeah, absolutely. There are some people who cross a moral event horizon that you just don't come back from. Maybe this would have flown in the 90's (even then to my chagrin back in the day) but this just isn't on now.

If you're talking about the dude who wanted to rape MC, in the 90's he would've been killed and everyone would have forgotten his existance soon enouth.

What I do hope is that the sexual assaulter is forced to confront his f-ed up actions towards women, and actually has to fix that.

Redo of the healer a story where the MC not only R@pes the targets of his enmity, but also psychologically manipulates them into being his slaves, and its considered a justifiable act of retribution.

Gushing over Magical Girls, the MC is literally doing all shorts of sexual things to her targets and it's seen as something funny.

Chained soldier, the MC is more or less enslaved, and girls have to reward him with sexual favors regardless of their will, and it is seen as a "bonding moment".

My life as Inukai-san's dog...because a horny man in a dog's body being in sexual situations with underaged girls is comedy!(the girls have no idea the dog is a reincarnated man btw).

Yeah I have to agree. It’s not just a problem of the past, it’s an ongoing one, that people don’t acknowledge, just like the sexualization of little children(the fact that the author of made in abyss is successful is telling)

Even only drowning for seconds can cause irreversible brain damage. The sooner breathing restarts, the less the chances of injury. Those men would’ve probably died if she didn’t go back for them, they had water in their throat, and possibly lungs. This was a full on drowning, of the kind that kills people. I don’t think they did enough to make up, but saying they got off with a slap on the wrist, is complete nonsense as well

Haruka never called him "kind", she said "kind OF like a little brother", because he kept calling her "big sis".

Also, it looked more like they wanted to beat Haruka up at first because they thought she was lying about not being Ralph's girlfriend. The other girl even said Haruka would be have been beaten up on page 14.

They didn't seem to imply anything like SA until after she said she "didn't have any money to pay them", which is a very stereotypical line for sexual favors. He misunderstood and suggested she "pay with her body", and when she refused and said she'd resist if they tried to force her, they kind of just stood and watched to see what she would do.

They were still 100% jerks with anger issues, but it doesn't seem like they normally force themselves on girls. If that was their plan, they would have been far more aggressive and forward about it.

It's really disappointing to get someone finally treating death seriously in isekai immediately followed up by some of the most egregious "boys will be boys" about attempted rape that I've seen in the modern era.

(With regards to people pointing out that there's plenty of rape fantasies out there: Yes, but most telegraph what they are, anyone with any sense knows that they're garbage, etc. Particularly: There's a salient difference between questionable fetish material and sincerely and thoughtfully positing that attempted rapists are "pretty much okay guys if they're, like, motivated by a little jealousy, it's all understandable".)

That is some of the dumbest shit I ever heard, particularly applied to this context. No one in their right mind would think someone was suggesting offering "sexual favours" in this situation unless it was directly to avoid violence or death upon themselves. And in case you haven't realized it yet—that situation is also rape. If you are to threaten someone in an alley and they offer to sleep with you to get you to not hurt them, and you take them up on that, you are a rapist (in addition to your other crimes, not in the alterntative). There is no two ways about it.

Ralph DID tell her in chapter 1 she should become an adventurer to show her power for her own safety. Also in chapter 2 we're told that strength is highly valued. I get the feeling that Pleine/Oranz is not as nice of a place as we think. I think Toto (Totto?) is more drunk on power worshipping then really a friendly guy.

I agree, especially if it wasn't their first time. With that said, I question— based on how lax Eri was about the situation—if they've ever actually followed through before? Do they maybe just beat the women up (not great, but better than rape) to make them less attractive and hope they make the women regret it?

I mean, Eri hates the playboy for breaking her friend's heart, so wouldn't she have already murdered them one-by-one over time if they forced themselves upon women? She was willing to eat dinner with them. And the other female adventurers haven't joined together to kill them.

If nothing else, it's inconsistent writing.

I'll just say that we have no way to know if it was more or less than than a one-sided fantasy. And if nothing else, I would argue that her response of "then prove it" shows she was aware and didn't bother cutting it off with the guy.

I suspect they're both bad people (if he's actually a rapist then he's obviously worse).

Their behavior certainly makes it seem that way.

Here's my question: Where is the childhood friend now? Playboy is still around, and so is the dude, but she's talked about like it's a thing of the past. Did she run away to the next town? Is she in a brothel due to having no one to rely on after finding the playboy with another woman? Did she regret what happened, try to return to the guy, get refused, and then off herself? Was she the guy's first victim and her body is now under a garden? Or was she the guy's first victim and ran away because of it?

Way too many possibilities. I hope the story addresses it at some point... and I certainly hope she doesn't end up with the guy—unless he's trash, then they deserve each other (because even if he turned into trash, she was most likely given a fair warning about playboy and still abandoned the childhood friend who she knew liked her and would likely provide well for her in the near future).

By the way, we're discussing the behavior of fictional characters with people from around the world from a device in my pocket the size of a wallet... just slow down and think about that for a moment.
