Damn for a split second I was thinking he'd be having a kid with the knight. Really sad it didn't go that way.

Worried about someones strength? Give them a whole area to create their own lands and develop actual power!
Seems like a good idea to me

@rockoford The worries were a lot of things, including that giving him a proper reward would still anger those nobles more interested in birthright than ability, while giving him a small reward might well anger him and those wanting to curry favor with a strong ally.

Seen that way this is an acceptable solution, since the title of a landed lord is a big reward (can't be complained about as being cheap) but the actual land is trash (no "proper" noble would have wanted it).
It might well be expected that he'd gain little but status from the land for a generation or two, but Isekai MC usually manage to pull out some trick from old Japan to get rich quick. :D

First of all, that ending was actually really adorable with Ryouma holding Elena on his shoulders.

Second of all, does that dumb bitch of a Queen really think that she can control him just by having him serve her as a noble? He now has lands, which means he will build up resources, which means he will be able to form a proper army to serve him. Her thought process is completely stupid.

Third of all, why would they care what the nobles and knights think at this point? Especially considering it was Ryouma who established all of the winning conditions of this war that allowed them to live in the first place. Who would realistically oppose someone like Ryouma, especially with the backing of royalty?

It all seems just kind of stupid considering that Ryouma would literally be the best person to make the Minister of Defense for your Kingdom. He has command of a clan of deadly assassins, he commands a large force of mercenaries (many of which seem to be able to use magic which they revealed was pretty rare in this world), Ryouma himself is clearly extremely talented in both martial and strategic abilities, and yet they're choosing to risk angering him all because they wish to try their hand at controlling him.

Please tell me he eventually shows all of these dumb bitches up and builds an empire of his own.

Frick, the ending panel was great... made my heart clench a bit. Also.. if it would have been axed.. this would have been a great chapter imo. But thankfully it continues haha

@Kathartes lol no I never meant she was going to make it, that in her struggle she is hopping to hold herself a bit longer.
she has no reliable subordinates, she has no political power and it seems she is aware from the beginning she is been set up...
there is some examples of her situation on real life in some nobles in France or the position the emperor in japan was during the world war.
she has no power or influence, the present establishment supports her just because is the rightful successor to the throne and follow there agenda.
she doesn't follow suit she is remove (kill or sold or deprive of her possessions and rank).
the fake princess probably doesn't even exist is just a ruse from a opposition of the present establishment to take away there main ship (the princess).
after this battle she avoid been discarded by the opposition now she is trying to avoid been discarded by her own side.
as a queen she is meant to support the establishment and keep the nobles at peace or she will be discarded.
in this story she is meant to lose in all sides. She could get him and growth but the story is not about her is about him.

about send him away giving him land will hold him back?
according to history send an uprising soldier or noble to a far way land as the ruler means:
he is bound to the country to that land, if he leaves he is accuse of treason. if he refuse is seen as an insult ether way will mean he will be on the run again from another country.
this lands tend to be far from areas on development, lacking on resources or without strategical importance been commercial or military (that's according to the nobles of the kingdom which is why they are ok with giving it to him).
this way they believe he is been properly leash and limited under there control.

now how he exploits the neglected resources of the area and grows to power over the arrogant, corrupt and despotic nobles is up to the author.

I completely agree with you. And its worse, all the nobles who started this civil war by backing up this fake princess are all still alive including the ring leader, that was the deal she made to save ONE KNIGHT, Mikhail. So all her opposition remains intact, while her side is weaker now than it was during the war. And her saving Mikhail, what a doozy there. She promoted him when he is the reason she couldn't completely win the civil war. All his subordinate undermine him since he is unworthy which makes it worse because Lupis then gives him more power to protect him and the cycle goes on...
Slighting a powerful force is just moronic, and she is too weak to take hard measures (killing the opposing nobles in one fell swoop).
He does start to take his revenge on her and everyone else in the later arcs of the story, so there is that to be thankful for.

As pissed off as we all are at her betrayal, we can all take solace in the fact her rule is doomed to fail.
This doom actually started when she agreed to spare the opposing Duke in exchange for Mikhail's life. She spared all the opposing nobles for a single knight's life with only the recognition of her reign as a bonus. Hardly a smart decision on her part. Plus, she spared Radine, the fake princess, which means they can use her again to start another civil war once Lupis' reign starts faltering, as it will with such incompetent leaders.
