This is all we wanted, but authors over there just can't like happy endings I guess.

The ending was happy. The penultimate chapter saw Nazuna leave until some indefinite period of time where she could subdue her longing for him, meaning that they couldn't be together as lovers-- if there was even ever a time that her longing would dissipate. And we find in the final chapter that years had passed without said longing dissipating, and through another vampire's anecdote we find it probably never will. Despite this self-imposed isolation, Kou finds Nazuna after the former mastered his vampire powers well enough to effortlessly subdue Nazuna if she becomes too feisty, and she can just drink extracted blood from him instead of taking it from the tap and risking whatever might happen if she did. She might go off on her own again, Kou will still go and find her, and the both of them can live with that. They still have a relationship, and who knows if babies are off the table.

But, yeah, I figured that the consternation fueling these post-COVID manga ending controversies is largely that the protagonist doesn't explicitly, on panel, play a perfect game of Galaga with the heroine's eggs and make a kghjillion babies with her in the epilogue.

People were complaining about the ending to Dagashi Kashi, too, fretting if the ending to this manga would have been more of that... except, actually reading the manga, it's literally "Hotaru proposes to Kokonotsu, then goes away, then comes back". People were actually trying to argue that an ero-doujin provided for them a more satisfying ending because the canonical ending was just that shit. Just a bunch of histrionics.

But wait... that was well before COVID, so I can't blame this on Gen Alpha. Never mind on that point.
