Killing the slaves is pretty distasteful.
Unironically better to the Van faction dead than stuck as slaves alive, if they even bother to care about it in the aftermath. Besides, they were screwed one way or another in this battlefield, horribly misaligned on moral intentions hoping to get reward money for their own desires, and the villains hoped to mercilessly slaughter every last ghoul just to exterminate one child; everyone here signed up to die even if a majority had no idea what they were actually signing on for.

The group were a bunch of selfish, hedonistic scoundrels that were a disservice to the legacy of a real hero in the past. It was inevitable. Better they basically died instantly so the bastard in charge goes down that much faster.

The situation of the battlefield, as it is depicted at this point, has mc winning handidly... So why is he rushing headfirst into danger against one of the few elites his troops can't actually kill easily? Should just have his troops gang up on them while defensive and at a distance, letting them slowly die from attrition as they are constantly contracting disease they have to heal. And any attempt to flee or attack could be punished that way. Once they moved far enough, just re-apply the curs to where they moved (or carry corpses there as source).

Really no need to endanger himself or any troops.

Yeah yeah, everyones sooo op. Why are these types of manga so popular, this is getting super boring. Is onesided slaughter really a powerfantasy? Seems downright pitiful. It's not even edgy anymore.

It's a type of wish fulfillment fantasy, so of course it'd be popular. To answer your question, yes, one-sided slaughter can be a part of power fantasy if it's being achieved by the protagonist, but in this case it's arguably not since it's being fulfilled by the entire faction the MC is part of (though I don't even know why you'd be asking this question which seems to be beside your point).

I wouldn't exactly call it pitiful since a lot of people are enjoying it, but it sounds more like you're upset you can't find enjoyment in this type of story. There's no reason it needs to be edgy, at least not this story in particular. Most revenge stories tend to fulfill the edgy trope, but despite the name, Death Mage isn't trying to be.

Most power fantasies tend to have a similar start or setup, so they're easy to spot early on. I get Death Mage wasn't obvious it was one in the beginning, but once the signs started to show, this would've been the best time to stop if you didn't enjoy such stories.

mainly cause that Priest is one of his kill targets that he wants to kill himself. Riley was kinda one but Gordon was the one who actually killed Mama Darcia so he gets the honor of being killed by Van.

Van essentially has 6 people he wants dead in that entire world. Riley and Gordon are two of them.

Oh and before people feel bad for Riley's slaves, dont. If you read the novel you'll find out they're quite evil. I dont remember the shielder's thing but the Mage girl kidnapped children and used them as a sacrifice to keep her youth and the scout betrayed his party for the treasure they found in a dungeon and was a adventurer newbie killer.

Honestly Im loling at you thinking that Van and his group are OP. If you knew the stuff that happens later in the series then you wouldnt have called this group OP.
the Noble Vampires
that show up later in the series could wipe out every single person in Van's group without breaking a sweat. Honestly Van's group RN are essentially large frogs in a well. They look OP because they're going against okay strength level humans.

I mean Eleanore (the vampire lady they’re going against) is actually stronger than Van and his entire group as she’s a rank 10 and their strongest rank is Vigaro who’s ranked 8 if I’m not mistaken. If she wasn’t getting blasted with sunlight then Van’s team would have no hope in beating her in battle (or at least without receiving significant losses).
