i think the issue is that rio internalized the mindset kyoko described- viewing friendship between women solely as an avenue for competition. she envied mahoro's comparitively carefree life with her loser husband and tried to sabotage it so that she could reassert her standing among her friends. she was so locked into viewing them as inferior that she didnt stop to consider that if she actually addressed them as equals and asked them for help she couldve gotten out of her horrific marriage with an intact social circle.
Yes. I think it's too early to write off Itsuki as an abusive partner. This is kinda an extreme situation, it's very understandable to react in anger. We don't know if it's a pattern.

And even if it was, that doesn't justify cheating, and especially not destroying her friends' marriage. She should have just left and sue his ass if that's the case.

It's never about the cheated partner, not even about the affair partner, it's about the selfish cheater. Natalie Portman, Shakira and Irina Shayk were cheated on ffs. It does matter who you are or how perfect you do everything, cheaters are either weak-willed or actively seeking temptations

Rio and Mahoro didn't have a real talk, and Rio never explained herself. If it's based off real life those things aren't guaranteed to happen but it does make this a little anticlimactic. This thing with the mother in law just feels like filler, I mean who cares at all what she thinks she's irrelevant.

So i was right in my comment on the last ch. He wanted to humiliate them like he felt.

Itsuki being a possessive control freak was also not surprising to be honest. His calmness about all of this, and given that he knew about this way before Mahoro but did nothing kinda hinted at that. Hope we get to see what happens to Rio in last 3 ch.

Reading the comments on here and yeah I 100% why "is into anime" was ranked so fucking high in major turnoffs for women in dating. Like yeah Rio fucked up, but the idea that she deserves what is CLEARLY a horrifically fucked mentally and emotionally abusive life and to be further brutalized is some "Moral Event Horizon" shit in terms of how I'd view people.

So are we taking the : "It's not Rio's fault, she did it because is her abusive husband" route.
God I hope not. Like even if it’s true he’s an abusive POS, Rio still didn’t have to go after her friend’s husband! I could’ve felt some sympathy had she gone for some different dude that wasn’t married to a friend of hers, but that and how fucked she was with taunting Mahoro make that not happening.

Maybe its time for Mahoro to finally get some redemption by putting her former step-mother in her place next chapter?

Also Mahoro still standing up for Rio and Rei even though they are garbage human beings, and Itsuki still wanting to follow through even after Mahoro intervened was something else. While Itsuki was the final nail in the coffin to help solidify Mahoro getting a divorce, her whole situation was just a means to an end for him to get back at Rio.

It's probably late to say this, but I still was lowkey expecting Rio to be some kind of red herring. She was made out to be such an obvious suspect after Kyouko was ruled out that, in the back of my mind, I thought there had to be more to it.

But as we can see that's not the case. This was pretty much played out as straight as it can be—Rio is guilty, Itsuki is a psychopath, and Rei is still the unremorseful asshole we all knew him to be. In hindsight it makes sense; if a lot of this is based on real life, then it stands to reason the answer is really that predictable. The simplest answer is, more often than not, the most correct.

Thank you for the translation (the superboss, mother-in-law, awaits. End it here, Mahoro...).
