We will provide development and roadmap updates going forward. We will try to do it once a month, but if not enough has changed, we will skip the update until the month after. We don't have an ETA on these yet, we will try to add them when possible.

UI:
  1. Considering adding a page selector to the top of the uploads list on the title page
  2. Title and chapter comments on the platform for supporters (currently, forum threads)
    1. We will look at importing comments from the forum into the new system
  3. Expand social and comments on the platform to group 2
    1. Group 1: Dex-chan supporters (already has access)
    2. Group 2: Data contributors (getting access next)
    3. Group 3: Users (will get access after spam prevention is set up)
  4. Payment icons (see NamiComi footer for an example) and other compliance information
  5. More tooling for platform moderators to help resolve user reports
  6. DMCAs from March 2025 to be added to the transparency report. First batch will be the ones that used the system, second batch will be the ones from CODA and COA, also known colloquially as "the massacre"
System:
  1. PIR endpoint (retrieves account data, thanks Bartolumiu!) to join the account deletion endpoint
  2. API abuse enforcement for systemic retrieval that doesn't conform to ToS or the API guidelines
    1. The access issues of the last couple of weeks, where MangaDex was degraded, were due to this
  3. Android and iOS app release preparations
  4. Reading tracking preparations
  5. Platform notifications on Web
A big thank you to our Dex-chan supporters and contributors!

God bless Dex-chan.

Will the forum still exist even when shit is integrated into the new system since I'm a big fan of the forum in an age where forums are rare, and I fear the existence of the unwashed masses like Dweeb Central unless YOU want to see people calling anything they don't like racial slurs because they are 13 year olds who need to be dropkicked.

The forums aren't going away; we're just planning to move title and chapter commenting to the platform instead. Things will be tested and adjusted properly over time to stop needless drama. At the beginning, there might be some teething issues, but we plan to continue adjusting rather than a 'release and forget' approach.

'Social style' commenting has its utility, but it's (or can be?) very ass for deep conversations and debates, so we are keeping the forums around for that.

So will we still be able to create forum threads for the chapters like we do now?

Nothing will stop any user from doing that, so you can continue to create them, yes. The title and chapter UI links will open the new system, though, so discussion will probably dry out as a result. No one can tell the future, so let's see what happens.

So it won’t be directly integrated like it is now. Honestly, that sounds like a terrible change.

To avoid any headaches later between the moderating team and users, I recommend you make a clear list of which "naughty words" are going to be forbidden to write.

None of that ambiguous "What we think is inappropriate" stuff. Be clear, and transparent on what you won't allow.

I don't want to be guessing like in Youtube what the system allows or not.

paywalling comments on the site is certainly a take? considering it used to be a normal part of v3
We just want to make sure everything works as intended before releasing them to the entire userbase (especially given the constant spambot waves we have already on the forums), so that's the reason why it won't be open to everyone at first (btw, contributors don't pay :02:)
for the low low price of 5 euros a month anything is possible
Or a low low price of waiting a bit more until we expand it to everyone

What's the status of cross-device reading history? This seems to be a feature that just got lost in the wayside but really shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

There's a simple question that might help: "Would you call your grandma that?"
If no, then it's most likely not okay.
If yes, then unless your perception of human decency is a wee bit skewed (in the wrong direction), then I'd say it should be safe enough (otherwise you'll probably notice it soon enough :wooow:)

Just in case, I wouldn't try to see what the limits are, since as a wise man once said, "the more you fuck around, the more you'll find out"

So same as now? As long as we don't go too crazy with unabomber territory we'll be fine?

We can still curse and talk about how sexy the anime girls are without needing to add ●●● to the words?

This is just speculation from me (we still have a lot to plan until there's anything final), but I'd say yeah?
Political content will still be a permanent ban though, that's a big no no :pout: (we don't want drama surrounding that again, and it's just painful to manage too)

Nobody knows the future, but one can make educated guesses. "We'll see what happens" is cope because you know it's a bad idea but you're blindly hoping it'll be better than you know it'll be.

Here's the hard fact: People are lazy. Manga and its reactions are not high-investment activities. They will not bother to create forum threads. Hell, imagine the very concept of being in the middle of a discussion in the place where everyone else is (the social style commenting) and suddenly asking to switch it to forums. It's impossible to not look assblasted. And you can't make anyone else follow you there, either.
If you direct them to a place that encourages shallow discussion, all you'll get is shallow discussion. The forums will die, and it'll be y'all's fault.

Do you know if there will be a more limited character count limit for posts on the platform compared to the forums?

As you said in the reply prior to this one, "social style" comments largely suck for deeper (or even lenghtier in terms of word count per message) discussions. I've always personally enjoyed forum style discussions for chapters and titles more for that exact reason, which is a large reason why I've always continued to prefer mangadex as a source to read manga (or at least, discuss and read discussions of it) as opposed to other ones (official or not).

Is there really no better way of handling adding a new system than switching the default way (and thus the main, or, for less popular manga, the only, since we both know 99% of people aren't gonna go out of their way to create or find forum pages for specific chapters if it isn't convenient to do so) people discuss manga chapters and titles? Like, having at least a direct and easy to access option in the UI that brings you directly to the forum of said chapter or title if you prefer it as a means of discussion, so that it doesn't effectively just kill forums for that use case? I feel this would just be a net downgrade to the experience, and I don't see this being a good direction to take.
