...this seems like a missed opportunity for an 'over 9000' joke, and I for one am slightly disappointed. My day is not ruined, however. (15K sticks in my head as the current cap for forum [not profile] posts, for some reason.)
Dammit… the thing is, it’s kind of hard to keep track of every comment, so I just counted the characters in the most recent long one I wrote, and it was just a bit over 8,000.

It would be very helpful to sort for latest update in your language(-s) for example, for detection of finished/abandoned/dmca'd series

To clarify the position of 'social and comments': Social posts and post comments will be expanded to group 2. When we are confident, we can fight the betting/adult spam on posts and post comments; we will expand it to group 3. Then, and only then, will we switch title comments and chapter comments to the new system.

People dislike change; this is nothing new, but the forum-style commenting system doesn't work well when it's separated to this degree, which is why it's happening. Until the switch-over is complete, both systems will remain accessible and linked.

It's not that we dislike changes, it's just that forum style commenting works better than Social media style commenting, tbh.

Like, what's the advantage of Social Media style commenting that can't be done in Forum Style commenting? Genuinely asking cause I really don't see any advantage of Social Media style commenting.

(Personally I even like the way it's like now that if you click the link on chapters, it took you to that chapter's forum, although I don't know if it's popular opinion or not).

Regarding "hypocrites": Supporters provide vital resources for the platform's long-term sustainability, whether they subscribe or add data entries that allow other users to find great titles to consume and support. It's okay to question things, but more than once in this thread, you've just been hostile. Please be a positive member of the community, or remove yourself from it; we're done with pointless drama.

I don't know if this is directed to any specific person, but I don't think it's necessary to say this.

People are voicing their dissatisfaction because they do care about the forum (or the site), if you remove that all, then what you got is basically just an echo chamber.

I didn't mean any disrespect with my comment, I was basically just voicing my dislike for Social Media style comment.

(If I do came as harsh, I apologize for that).

(But I also know I'm nobody XD)

Regarding Library filtering: understood. I will see what can be done on this and whether we can support it with our current resources. From my understanding, filtering can be "expensive" on CPU/RAM, but it sounds useful, especially for users with large libraries tracking many (hundreds of) titles.

My comment is directed at roguezilla specifically. I completely understand that people are welcome to their opinions, just like the next person, and, as I said, it's very okay to question things, but constantly being negative alongside berating and insulting supporters for keeping a service up that this user also enjoys is not great to see.

From what I know, it should still be a lot less expensive than the standard advanced search, given that even a large library has a lot fewer entries than the entire database.

but I don’t think you should write things like this
Nah, Neko is right in calling out rogue. He's just here to shitstir as usual. The dude's payed to boost the MangaDex Discord for like 5 years now and has admitted that he likes arguing with staff for fun.

The forums aren't going away; we're just planning to move title and chapter commenting to the platform instead. Things will be tested and adjusted properly over time to stop needless drama. At the beginning, there might be some teething issues, but we plan to continue adjusting rather than a 'release and forget' approach.

'Social style' commenting has its utility, but it's (or can be?) very ass for deep conversations and debates, so we are keeping the forums around for that.
Hi,

i still dont quite understand how its going to be after the switch.

lets say there is a chapter discussion for an old/existing chapter in the forum.
like this one : https://forums.mangadex.org/threads/reiwa-no-dara-san-vol-2-ch-14.1472936/
1: will the already existing comments in the forum thread be transfered in the mainsites new integrated comment section ?
2: when a new comment on the mainsite to this chapter is made, will it only be visible there or will it be mirrored to the forum too ?
3: when a new comment is made in the forum thread, will it be mirrored to the new comment section on the main site?
4: will the old/ existing threads in the forum be closed and/ or deleted after the new comment system is implemented on the mainsite ?

thank you

That is the current plan. Quote:
We will look at importing comments from the forum into the new system
2: when a new comment on the mainsite to this chapter is made, will it only be visible there or will it be mirrored to the forum too ?
3: when a new comment is made in the forum thread, will it be mirrored to the new comment section on the main site?
I have no idea if that's even feasible so I'll let someone else comment on that.
4: will the old/ existing threads in the forum be closed and/ or deleted after the new comment system is implemented on the mainsite ?
Nope! The forums will remain open

I think if numbers 2 and 3 were possible without incredible pain, the comments would already be directly visible and interactable on the platform, and we wouldn't be looking to deploy the new system.

Last time I asked about it internally (around august 2025), I got some insights on how the link between the mainsite and the forums works regarding user accounts, and it seems like it's somewhat easy to get the forum ID when you have the mainsite ID, but that's sadly not the case when you try to do the opposite (that being one of the main reasons that blocked any further integrations afaik, at least if we ignore XF just being a nightmarish piece of software to work with)

This kinda confusing for me if you mention about ID account. What if the mainsite and forum account is different?
Like when you get banned on the forum but stillvcan read manga and vice versa? Like, I can't think of it when you integrated the mainsite comment and forum comment. And what about the deleted chapters that got nuked? Right now, you still can open the comments because it's separate, but what about when the comments applied directly to the chapter?
And the ultimate question for now. Is there still April first fake ads?

Doesn't look like there will be any sort of decent library export option.
Back to manually doing that I guess. With pivot to social media this is basically worst direction for website to take.

Bullet point 1 from the "System" category. That literally returns all the data we have related to you.

My bad if so, it's very unclear what that point means honestly from user standpoint.
Good to know. Is it only activated during deletion process or will be avaiable as a separate function?
Thanks in advance

From my understanding, it's similar to data packages on other platforms, like Discord's data export, or Google's "Takeout" system, so I'd say it's a separate process.

“Why am I currently unable to create a new draft on MangaDex? I’ve already translated 315 chapters into English.”

From the modnotes on your profile:
2025-09-01:
User created multiple title pages with wrong native title + no source links. Draft autoapproval privilege revoked.
2026-02-11:
User still submits drafts missing most essential data. Title creation privileges revoked entirely. Do NOT reinstate.

Also, this isn't the thread for that.
