Lots of western takes in this comment section.

Just an FYI, there's a large difference between this and Usagi Drop.

Usagi Drop: 30 year old Daikichi becomes the guardian of his 6 year old aunt, raises her, and eventually gets into a relationship with her.

This manga: Grey (mid 20s?) takes in a bunch of orphans, including 13 year old Ariamel. As of yet, there's no romance between them.

There's also a large difference in settings between the two manga. One is set in more or less modern day Japan while the other is set in a medieval fantasy world.

Don't think manga ever gonna say Gray age just like the WN, but going from the Characters Introductions that author made, he is 34 years old

Ya know Usagi Drop was like....more than 10 years ago for the anime and even longer for the manga, I think it's time to recover lol.

Also pretty sure the wife joke is Grey's Ex's friend teasing her friend to prod her into making a move on Grey before some other girl does. I rather doubt she is really saying she is wife material.

I don't see this turning into an Usagi Drop thing. Ariamel is too focused on tkaing care of her little brothers and sisters.

But she's definitely been parentified. But it's not like it's any particular person's fault - just life being shitty.
(Learn about Parentification here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parentification )

Fortunately, for her, this doesn't seem to be one of the more destructive forms of parentification. Her efforts are acknowledged and credited, and she has no lack of love from her siblings. She was just forced to grow up very quickly in order to care for her family.

Though it would be for the best if the MC could find someone to be his significant other. Otherwise she's gonna be stuck with being the mother figure of her family for some time to come, and not be able to have a life on her own terms.

I think the fact that he rejected the sacrificial village girl near the beginning shows he probably has reasonable and rational sexual boundaries and we probably don't have to worry about him usagi-dropping.

The comment I was originally planning to make was that I quite enjoy this manga and end up reading it from the beginning every time a chapter drops...but then I read all (some) of the other comments.

I wonder how strong they are compared to him, I know he's B rank but not sure if that's partly just because he doesn't do hard party-type quests

hmmmm, I would say they're about even overall. It's just that Grey has this red mage thing going on. He can't beat his ex in sword skills, or the other girl in magic, but he can do pretty much everything since he's been working solo and had to learn anything he couldn't do to compensate. Even before than, he made sure to learn swords and magic but being on his own made him learn scout skills and anything else he'll need.

Desperately hoping the author isn't planning to hook up Ariamel and Grey. I don't care if they've done hentai before, I came here for wholesomeness.

No need blame an entire region of people for the few comments from weirdos that the majority have disagreed with.

I wonder why they broke up though. I mean she clearly still loves him so it's either that he no longer wanted to be with her or they split ways because of a difference in lifestyle. Part of me kinda hopes they get back together.

Ariamel is cute and all, but so far Grey clearly sees her as a child so I can't see it between them unless a timeskip happens and he develops feelings for her when she's older. I find that unlikely since that would be quite a large timeskip for a series so focused on the day-by-day development of these kids.

They tend to change quite a bit of stuff from the WN to the LN to the manga, though.

Like in the Overlord WN, the female mage from the Nazarick exploration arc "lives" and IA eventually reunited with her little sisters. In the manga and, IIRC, the LN, she's killed and her little sisters are sold into slavery and die in a mine.
