what kind of salesman are allowed to just barge in on personal property like that? Does that really happen in Japan? Cause that's fucked up and would get you killed/beaten/sued where I live.

Correct me if I'm wrong , but I remember something about all japanese citizens having to pay to the NHK company if you have a TV , it's a law if i'm not wrong. Also

This is an example if you don't do that

The "random saleperson" guy has legal authority to inspect an house because NHK is a public television and any household owning a television should pay License Fees.

IIRC, the UK has a sort of TV tax (which I don't know the full details of), and I assume Japan has something similar, meaning they'd have to verify if he actually has a TV or not.

Honestly, it'd be better to ask someone who knows about this shit, but looking at the Wikipedia article on NHK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHK
It looks like any equipment that can receive an NHK broadcast (such as a TV) requires a standard fee, so yeah, a kind of TV tax.

[ I was trying to sell a cable subscription and one way or another I ended in another world ]
gotta copyright that right now.

edit:

reading the comments, you have to pay tax for a service you aren't requesting? ppl is stupid, make a group and sue, you will see how you get ride of that one. you can't be forced to pay for having a device that allow you to intercept (watch) the radio spectrum, is the ones that transmit on it that need to secure their broadcast.(encrypt)
nowadays that kind of "strategy" falls into some kind of monopoly that these days are illegal in most places

Let the tresspasser explore the dungeon. At best he could become a hero. At worst, he'll get a lesson about why you don't forcefully intrude one's home.

Here in France we also have a TV tax that pays for public television, but that doesn't mean randos are allowed to check if we have TVs or not. It's just a checkbox on the tax form.

Reminder that since the homeowner explicitly expressed that he did not want him to enter the home, the collector is trespassing. If the collector wanted to enter the home, he is required to receive a warrant. The only time a warrant is issued is when there is evidence that fees are not being paid illegally. Which he cannot collect without entering in the first place.

MC could sue and win.

Why don't you try germany? You don't even need a device. Any household is required to pay GEZ fees for TV, Radio and stuff.
I don't have a device, I don't use their service and I don't want to support the shit they put out from all that money. But they expect me to just fork over 17,XX€ a month because I exist.
People tried to sue and apparently lost? I'm not entirely sure about the outcome or if it's still ongoing but it was decided that it's legal and binding.
Also although everyone has to pay without question it's not considered a tax. Because as a tax it would be illegal or something. That stuff just reeks of organized crime straight from the government.

Oh good lord, it's a guy from NHK.

And for those who are questioning if someone like this guy could suddenly appear in your doorstep to ask if you have a TV in Japan...
Yes, this does happen in real life.

When they do show up, just go full gaijin and speak in whatever foreign language you can until they leave. Works every time.
