@part-timer That's not how prizes work. If he was on a team with a girl who wanted the beauty potion, then they as a team could only get first or second prize. They can't have both. They either get first and earn the beauty potion or get second and get the slim potion.

That's part of the setting though. The other's in his class REALLY don't like him. The guys are afraid, the girls are disgusted, it really couldn't be any worse for him. That's why he's so desperate and putting in so much effort to change his image and avoid his bad ending.

Edit: Also, I'm curious as to why the girls want the beauty potion so much. In typical manga fashion, all of the female characters strong enough (and important enough to the plot) to actually stand a chance at winning are already beautiful. What would happen if they became even more beautiful? The boys would be better off winning and giving it to somebody currently ugly, and reap the benefits.

I'm guessing it's mostly for boasting purpose.
I mean, even if the potion doesn't change your face, you can still boast that you have beauty approved by the high standard of magical beautifying potion.

It's so sweet for the boy to do it, but without proper trusting relationship in place beforehand, the girl will forever haunted by the thought that the boy only loves her because of the beauty potion.

In WN she still have feelings for Piggy (and possibly falling for him again), she even swap the potion with him ,in WN she gives it to him and then ask him 1 potion (WN 4 Beauty Pots) in LN raws, she throw it to his face and picks the beauty pot. So IDK if he said something that annoyed her or she just throw the slim pot to grab the beauty pot. She just stares him in the raws I need more info!

Shuya at least in WN is a minor character, Vision got all of the protagonist's power ups. While in LN seems like he will be MC's rival or at least will have more relevance in the story.

inside it is the Fire Great Spirit (MC is beloved by the Wind Great Spirit which is a fat black cat later cat states Slow is actually beloved by all spirits -Elemental Master- and he's called Wind Beloved just because wind was the first element spirit he met.).

Guy basically don't do nothing without crystal divination, if crystal says he will be defeated , he will surrender inmediatly. Believe me it already happened.

Also, I don't think that part (regarding the beauty potion) in particular needs to be in a spoiler box, as you're not giving away any spoiler information from future events/developments, just adding additional information to events for this chapter that weren't explained in the manga to the same level of detail as in the WN/LN. (though the other stuff does need the spoiler tag)

Although various lipids or emollients have been used for anointing throughout history, this use hardly counts as cosmetical in today's sense. Scientific cosmetic chemistry exists only since 1920.

So for our standars yes it's just a glorified moisture cream, but for people of their era (especially people in a magic world were they tend to research magic over science) it's a very rare medicine (In LN seems to be less rare than in WN as the academy itself is organizing the festival and so they probably make it, not needing rare ingredients or high level alchemists.) or at least one very difficult to obtain (No science = No mass production = Less stock = High demand).
