i like the art in this manga a lot, but the plot is shit lol
why is the smoking bitch like a goddess to all the characters, what makes her so special?
i feel like i've read this manga already, hundreds of times, the characters too archetypic.

she is more suitable as a heroine than their senpai

She's obviously the final girl, and the senpai will probably disappear at the end.

It's hard to remember this series started with a guy doing different gags to impress his older senpai at university has now turned into this. When MC missed the date that was a pretty high tier moment, but with the introduction of the ex-boyfriend we are going off track. His mere existence and this shift in direction is ruining the series.

@gigagiga wow, you're completely right. I was wondering where my lack of engagement was coming from. The main comedy/hook is all but gone atm!

@gigagiga it's a necessity imo. There's no reasonable reason for the MC to "improve" in such a short time without finding someone similar to him. He needed to see how much he needed to improve and how much resolve he needs to get through it. imo I like the arc, even tho it does feel irritating at times especially since I realize that this ex-BF guy is just a plot device, but I think we'll finish the arc with a stronger direction.

@Flare77 I do not think they needed to have the ex-boyfriend or at least not handle it like this. We have been going in circles between the ex and the MC for how long now? The series imo started in a very interesting way and adding the senpai's workplace and coworkers was a nice touch and change of pace, but this is turning into the same thing I have seen a million times handled as poorly as I have ever seen. I know the author is trying to force the character arc of the MC by the ex-BF every damn conversation saying, "You are a virgin and I am alpha so you aren't ready" over and over. I much rather the author capitalize on the MC's own internal conflict, plus the leading up incidents to the accident causing him to miss the date where we see him really pushing himself, now it is like we are at a standstill and any progress gained hardly feels earned. Even now it is hard to tell how deep in this arc we are at least for me because progress on any front has been minimal.

Edit: Also, there is no reason the MC should have to improve in such a short span of time. The reason the early gags were interesting was it was basically the MC trying to try out everything he could to impress or gain favor of senpai, but slowly realizing he needs confidence in himself and not to follow the feelings or actions of others. Though that theme continued it never really reached the high point of when the MC was late for the date and was trying to hide his emotions even when he still does the same tactics. Before, it felt like we were seeing progress of the MC's personal growth now it feels like we are watching hijinks ensue.

You can write an ex without having him be an irredeemable a-hole. Sometimes relationships don't work, sometimes people drift apart, and sometimes people change. There are so many ways you could write a past lover arc that could engage the reader without a convoluted cliche mess, but chief, this ain't one of them.
