Yes. All dungeons have demons at their heart; the dungeon is their prison while they are on the material plane. They feed off "desire" and function like evil genies. Apparently, the rarer and more complex the desire, the more filling for the demon.

(Also the people predicting that the winged lion would kill every one as part of Marcille misunderstand how demons operate. He'd create a false reality in the depths of the dungeon and slowly feed off Marcille and Laius until there was nothing left. Similar to how the immortal denizens of the kingdom are trapped somewhere in the dungeon because the dark elf's desire.)

edit: Ah, you've found the chapter. Feel silly having typed this out.

I just realized that the rabbits can use Street Fighter moves. Check out the panel when they were ganging up on Chilchack's corpse.

Ah, the plight of the immortal, to have everyone you know and love die off before you... only to continue living without them forever.

Poor innocent lion being corrupted by tempting elf! Yet another incredible chapter, what a gift this is.

@SmallTinyNeedles
That's not correct, it's explicitly covered back during the academy flashback chapters where they make simple synthetic dungeons and then Farlyn takes Marcille out to see a natural dungeon during that first real bonding moment. Dungeons seem to be a natural feature of that world, though natural ones are fairly simple and face limitations on natural magic and ecosystem mechanics. They can also be created artificially, inspired by the natural ones, with all the normal ones people try also being limited by magic input.

The Ancients likely took that existing concept and found it usefully adaptable to turn into vastly more complex self-healing/propagating labyrinth prisons for their hypermagic gates to make sure demons wouldn't escape. Synthetic containment dungeons are vastly more complex, and react with hostility to desire, perhaps part of a programmed into auto defense system due to their true purpose. Creatures without desires aren't a threat to containment.

Probably part of the problem for the Ancients is that they directly wanted to make use of hyper magic to power actual projects, be it for peace or for the super war that kicked off later. So they were never able/willing to make a stable system. Thistle managed to game things because he wanted to create a cutoff forever world without any outside interaction, and figured out how to split the demon up and prevent/limit its feeding on him. With access to no one else it was stuck.

I know Marcille's wish can be completely pure and just, but I really can't help but feel like there might be another reason besides that one. Something like she wanting to spend her life and age with someone she already has in her mind, someone that has worried her a lot, has been protecting her and literally has changed her in so many ways.

@chilzhul or make everyone in the world lived for 1 year and then die. She didn't specify how old they want everyone to be.

Holy crap this chapter was god tier, that dance number with the rabbits was insane, the cover page makes Marcille look super cute. The Lion is drawn so friendly but get progressively more sinister in the end. Also super touching to see how much Marcille cares about her friends.
