I think if you have an Xbox One or so, you can grab a few games fer freebies.

some examples I may know of:
Saint's Row
Saint's Row 2 (Dunno if these are freebies anymore but they're at least pretty good)
Crackdown
Crackdown 2 (Same with the above, dunno if they're freebies anymore, but eh.)
Phantom Dust (though, it's also playable on PC)
Too Human (There's a funny reason why this one's a freebie, it's because of bunch of legal hubbub, it's illegal to actually sell this game on Microsoft's storefront so... ...they instead made it a free game, though, it is the game that ended Silicon Knights, the same group that brought us the gamecube port of Metal Gear Solid)

vivid/stasis is peak. It's a rhythm game, and while I don't play many of those, this one is remarkably story-driven. The plot gets fucking insane (and meta) and is supplemented by stellar visual effects and minigames! And sure there are valid criticisms: the charting goes ham sometimes, the puzzles get more and more how the fuck was I supposed to solve that??, and the game is a bit buggy, but its probably my favorite game right now. It truly merges the vivid and the stasis of life.

Also yuri.

And now it's had a full release! Which I think fixed some of the bugs and wack puzzles (I haven't played through it yet) and it's now got class.

Go experience the trans yuri already!

For iPhone/iPad users,

http://apps.apple.com/app/gta-iii-definitive/id6468843723

GTA III – Definitive (Currently free - v1.84.0)

Seems someone at Rockstar has made a mistake by making this free before pushing the update to enable in-app purchases in the AppStore. And it really is free at the moment (I’ve downloaded it and there’s no purchase prompt here).

Do not update this game (current version is 1.84.0) if you want to keep it like this.

Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls is free on Steam. It's a cute little, retro, beat 'em up, indie game.

And since we're all manga readers here, this title gets bonus points for its vintage Japanese game styling.

(EDIT: Added the second line.)

Lucid9 is one of the best free visual novels I've ever played.

It's about a guy that goes to a prestigious boarding school that, of late, has had several students go missing and later show up murdered. But the story as a whole's not 100% dark, and there're some lighter hearted slice-of-life moments as well. The climax near the end is also my single favorite individual scene in all of fiction.

What's out right now is the "common route" that will be followed by individual "heroine routes" (The first of which is nearing completion) and later a "true route."

There are choices to decide which of these routes you get, but it's possible to fulfill the requirements for all of them and then choose one at the very end. I'd even say it's fairly easy to do that, as I was able to do it without a guide despite choosing to see all the joke "Gover Mecher" sequences. Just save at every choice in case you need to go back and you'll be fine.

Anyways, Project Kat and it's sequel Paper Lily are also very good. They're inspired by classic RPG Maker horror games and about kids going to the demon world to solve their problems, only to subsequently realizing how horrible of an idea that was.

THAT NIGHT, STEEPED BY BLOOD RIVER is also a pretty cool surrealist game if you're into that sort of thing. It's one of those things where you wander around and have no idea if you've ever actually finished the game. It's pretty cool and very strange.

Lucid9 okay and all but the cliffhanger of an ending with no proper sequel still after 9 years is kinda a shame to be honest, I understand the developers are a small team but still. :aquadrink: Other from that, I really liked the OST and catch myself coming back to it every now and then (same thing with Paper Lily).

I don't know if you've been keeping up with the development, but according to the team, Elizabeth's route is nearing completion with only a couple more scenes left to be written. As of now, they're planning on releasing it this year. Plus, they've been working on the other routes in the background, so it hopefully shouldn't take as long for those to come out afterwards.
