I suppose the idea is "save them from being wiped out so they can be tortured for eternity more" but there is some major dissonance there, especially since they're going along with preferring torture over nonexistence by not throwing themselves to the god, so he's helping the people he hated most get exactly what they want.

Plus just the idea of protecting them from the new more flimsy enemy even if it is to torture them just feels.. shallow.

I do so love the panels of the Doctor and General grabbing onto/hiding behind him.
As for people not throwing themselves to destruction. The one guy would do so that is why he is restrained. Sandra wouldn't want to cease to be without her Princess so it makes sense that she isn't trying to get offed. Not sure on the Doctor and General been so long since I read their arcs that I am not sure what their thoughts on ceasing to exist are, though I find it hilarious that they are the most 'sensible' ones(if you ignore that there choice is between non-existence and eternal torment) when threatened with non-existance. SAVE ME.
