@Kaisermutt "Fascinus", huh? I've never heard that before, I wonder what that word means.
*one google search later*
Oh. Yeah, I hope that never shows up either.

it's always neat having translation notes giving context not only for the story but also the translations themselves - very meta

@Kaisermutt Don't take my word for it, but I think "Heterogenia Linguistiko" might be an Esperanto phrase. I can't really explain why, my knowledge of that one conlang is pretty limited, it's more like a hunch. So yeah, it's quite likely that my supposition is wrong, but I wanted to tell you anyway.

@Ichijiku I'm no expert in Esperanto, other than that I think it's pretty interesting and tried translating manga into it once for fun, but consulting the dictionary I have it seems like it's probably not Esperanto? Or else it might be an attempt at something like Esperanto from someone passingly familiar with the language.

It doesn't seem -ia is a standard suffix for basically anything, with -a used for adjectives and -i for infinitive verbs. Heterogena would be used for Heterogeneous, while Lingvistiko (or maybe Lingvistikoj with the plural -j in case the root word doesn't count as plural) would be Linguistics.

It'd be technically possible to write Lingvistiko with the vi in Japanese katakana, but it'd be a pain in the ass lol. Like... ヴィ or something. リンヴィスティコ or リングヴィスティコ I think would be closest.

images are 12 megabytes in size each... how on earth did you bloat the filesize so much when they are just 1500x2133 pixels?

@ahobaka Shit, just remembered I turn off the compression some time ago when I was troubleshooting upload issues. I'll fix that.

@Bainhardt Oh, wow, never thought I would "spoil" myself with some shots from an Esperanto dictionary 😆 (thanks for all that info, btw)
So, if it's not Esperanto, not Italian, not Latin... maybe it's a conlang made by Seno Salt himself? That wouldn't be strange for any Linguistics enthusiast.
The only thing I'm sure of is that we're getting the MC experience here, trying to decipher a language from just two words.

Last chapter took me to school pretty bad lol. This one was pretty easy to understand in comparison, though only because Mongolian has a "voluntative" mood which acts as Hakaba described.

I can only imagine how dull this manga would be to someone with no interest in linguistics... though Suzuki's cuteness should keep them captivated.

I am reading this at 4:30 in the morning trying to understand Hakaba's finding. My brain is frying

"Heterogenia Linguistico" isn't even Italian. In proper Italian it would be "Eterogenesi linguistica" ("eterogenia" is a less common version of "eterogenesi").
(h)eterogenia is a greek loanword (a compound of έτερος, "other" and γένος, "genus/race/type"), meaning "of different origin" or of a group "composed of disparate elements". That is to say, "eterogenia" is probably the 'more correct' one.
