Assuming you growth isn't in some way stunted by outside/inside factors, experience can't be beat when it comes to handling situations, a teenager won't have the breadth of already-lived-through scenarios to draw upon. A simple function of the amount of time lived.

The more concerning thing here is the grown adult MC falling for the teen FMC. Handwaved as usual, despite a clear maturity difference.
