The accusation from the bad noble at the good noble was that the good noble will have a monopoly on rails and could jack up the price at will. The primary material, iron, is also a material the good noble sells, so there's the angle that the good noble could "double-dip" by selling rails AND the materials.I got that they wanted to make his city into the train hub
but I didn't understand what they chose to settle with instead? because that evil noble interfered with the plans so what got settled instead because it sorta looks like team good guys won somehow?
So the bad noble went ahead and got iron imports, and will be undercutting the sale of rails at half-price.
Since there is no monopoly on the technical knowledge, the good noble has basically lost all direct profit from the railway investment.
Of course, anyone with an inkling of historical knowledge knows these direct sales are only useful for recuperating initial investments. The real ROI comes from the compounding growth by the trade, traffic, and future development that comes from being a "hub." The real value comes from asking the other territories to build starting from the good nobles territory.
And according to the good noble, this deal was primarily to elevate the status of crafters. As they will be the major contributor to this economic project, they will enjoy better status, which will help the crafting prince's status - his future son-in-law - as well.
No one will chase MC for the technology either since no one knows how much he contributed, and it's all public knowledge.
