I wouldn't put much stock in prices and conversions. Most authors have absolutely no idea about appropriate price ranges for pre-industrial societies.

I'd wager most readers wouldn't either, tbh.
I think the issue is probably a really bad silver->copper conversion (probably also 10:1 if I had to guess) in which case author didn't realize such a high rate would necessitate multiple sizes of copper coins or an in-universe explanation that gold and silver are way more common than irl.
