the thing with Cid is... is that he's way too dedicated to his life purpose which is to be "that guy who acts behind the scenes. the guy who deals all the troubles in the shadows in contrast to the heroes/heroines in the spotlight, who occasionally cross paths with them"

yeah he's an idiot for NOT paying attention to whether things are happening for real or not.
yeah he's a massive buffoon for being too engrossed in his chuuni imaginations.

but let's be for real, he's actually a nice chara for being way too honest with himself.
I've yet to see him stray away from his goals and the like. the only thing close to it is

Arc 6 where he actually questions his goals in life. how is he actually doing as someone who treads the path of the "person who acts behind the curtains"

which actually gave a good spin on him without changing him too much

also this series is a massive joke towards the edgy, underground vs underground groups.... covered in icing that we call "serious moments" in this series.

Cid is not dumb but way too jaded with his personal goals however,
