Ohhh 10000% he will likely be a decent ish guy other than that, so they'll play him as the one that got away type scenario and runa will be the center of some mad drama

There's a bit of a nice guy there.
There's also a guy who ran away from the girl he loved because he wanted to spend his teens picking all the flowers he could grab. He's empty now and feels tremendous guilt over the one he let get away; when he's lead back to her, it's gonna be a huge roadblock to their full reconnection for literally years.

Its actually a pretty good adaptation, which is good and bad. I often find myself extremely critical of adaptations in any media, and this one hasn't been disappointing. It can be hard to disconnect from the "omniscience", but I'm still enjoying it.
