She simply jealous of Iris who has all the things she doesnt. She feels that with her looks, she should be given a better life and as such worked hard to get there and also wanted to see Iris downfall. As for the disband of army, probably because the country is currently not at war (Though no peace was ever signed with Towair) so she thinks the army as unnecessary. Since her goal is to one day rule over the country, she needs all the powerful people on her side and the love of the people (mostly those in the capital) so some publicity stunt like this helps. Though her plan somewhat backfired when the pope is removed from power thus removing Van as the candidate for the next pope, she coldly ignores Van afterwards since he is of no use to her already.

I get you. But the same can be used in regards of her being from an enemy territory. She can be from the slums still, she can hate Iris for having everything she didn't still. But, in this instance, it would also explain her distorted expression and her desire to remove the military at the same time. Plus, her desire for control over the kingdom could also be used as a motive of an enemy state.

Well, like you said before, we won't know in till more is revealed. And, since this is a manga, some things may be changed. WHO KNOWS.

This is what I get for her backstory
Her mom is the actual spy/honeytrap send to cause the kingdom to fall. But at some point fell in love with a noble and have a child with him (Yuri). Her mother later was chased out by the noble wife and she lives her life in the slum with Yuri. A guy named Reuben who is Yuri's mother partner found them but was told off by Yuri's mother. Yuri who sought a better life, meet with this Reuben guy and learn all about honey trapping. After her mother dies (Which she vows not to end up like her) the noble send people to find her and her plan was put in motion.
By my guess, she may or may not being used by this Reuben guy. It seems like it will benefit him more rather than Yuri if she succeed in her plan. So yes, the story is lot lot lot deeper than the what you guys think

The girl's backstory has too many holes, it fits if they are spies, the mother was originally stationed in the castle, she moved out to the house of the noble she fell for, and disappeared after getting pregnant, never to be seen again, despite all the efforts put in to find her. It's also highly unlikely for a lost child to be found in such a setting after being orphaned, she would have needed to make herself be found, and that's probably where her mysterious relative came in.

As for whether she is maliciously undermining the country, or is just a ditzy money hungry thot. Iris puts it best when she explains that if calculated, all this undermines the kingdom, weakens their defenses, and wins Yuri the love of the common people (mostly just Yuri). It's too much to be a coincidence.

Fuko: that's just half true, Rome was an aggressive expansionist because that's what kept it stable,
for a really long period Rome could support all it's expenditures from looting, it's armies inflated by recruits from previously conquered regions.
The first real standing army was the black army funnily based on the Roman legion, but in early renaissance style.
