Can somebody refresh my memory? What exactly did he do that was so bad that made people hate him so much?

I try to stay open minded and partial about character who are obviously intended to be depicted as evil or bad towards the audience (as it’s told from a biased POV) especially with this story, I expected some sort of twist. Maybe I brushed it off cuz but what did he do?

Mao mao saw him as evil cuz she thought he purposely impregnated her mother to lower her price, but now we know they were actually in love, so why are people still conflicted and hating him? Ofc not full on trust or love him but at least not hate
