Personally, I think that Sullivan was looking for Delkira's heir more than his reincarnation. Remember back during the Hunting festival that it's implied that Delkira was looking for the most undemon like demon to become king in his place.

I could imagine maybe Iruma's ancestor met Delkira in the past and that's how Iruma's parents found a working summoning seal, or Sullivan scouring the Earth for the most greedy human who represented Delkira's vision.

Just a reminder that Mephisto was the Chancellor of the previous Demon Lord and the current one who ruled the Netherworld for Sullivan knows how many years is absent for decades or even centuries. A lot of these kinds of villains are usually like “why can’t I take him down it’s just one guy!!”
But it’s cool to have a villain who fully understands “I’m not fighting him, I’m fighting every single friend he’s made since he got here and every single person he comes into contact with is another potential threat.”

I think that’s kind of the idea.

The only reason Iruma is able to be so gluttonous about everything is because he’s naive enough to believe he can.

He’s been beaten down by life already before he even came to the Demon World, and the result that he drew from that wasn’t to be cruel, but to be kind.

He had nothing once, so now he has to have EVERYTHING. Once something is within his grasp he won’t let it go no matter what.

I don't think it was an intentional choice to find Derkila. Chapter 307 Near the end has Sully note he sees passing glimpses of the king but doesn't understand why.

If, for example, George Washington, Andrew Jackson or any other significant person of the past suddenly appeared in any city of the modern US/world I bet they'd be sent to jail or a mental hospital in a matter of minutes and NO ONE'd believe any of their words about their importance, so I don't think it's too far-fetched.

I believe we'll see some shonen jump trash slop, when the manga challenges move out of the academy itself (We've seen some of it in the Walter park, but it wasn't Iruma, as much as Ameri, Kalego and Opera.) It'll probably focus on people around Iruma (+1 Deaf Rabbit) whose recent growth we didn't get to see from Iruma's POV and their recollections.
When the Iruma has a battle main character moment it usually isn't shown shonen-like, and instead he's skipped into from someone else's story beat. I think the author assumes we don't need to have the how of Iruma's power reexplained after being there in story when he was getting it.

It is indeed different, but slightly and not entirely, because Mephisto regained a powerful position before trying to clash with Baal's faction pawns not so long ago, at the Deviculum.
Now he is indeed an active member of upper echelons of the Netherworld society, but is called Mephisto, not Mephistopheles as he was called by the previous Demon King; literally wasn't active during Delkira's rule (proof of how he told us, readers, that '...for some hundreds of years after that, I was removed from the Game Board at the pinnacle of Netherworld.') and literally materialized himself only after receiving a letter about the 'Trickster plan' of the Three Greats.
So, if you don't remember something and don't care enough to re-check, just don't try to make other people look like they're dumb. Bye.
