While I understand the preemptive strike (even if it was too violent from the start because he knew who was riding the dragon), all the rest was far too much.

Sure she came with a dragon, but didn't attack, and when she got attacked she didn't ripost and even asked to talk.
You can be suspicious and refuse to let them have an audience with the king (even if the best would be to only allow the girl to see the king) but you don't try to kill them whatever they say or do...

It's like if the princess of a powerful country came in a armed helicopter. It's understandable to prevent it to cross the border but you don't try to kill her in every possible ways (and it's even worse because it's outside of the border) unless you want an excuse to go to war.

So no, the guy is not in the right at all. He didn't strikes with a warning shot he just straight up go to kill her.

There is a thing called diplomacy... If you attack and kill everything that could be threatening to you even if it's outside of your border and even if it's important for the foreign countries you just failed hard at that.

@Clad95150 Just because she didn't attack it doesn't mean it was impossible for her to do it when she was right in front of the walls but the real issue here is the lack of a proper warning.

If the princess of a foreign country shows up in an attack helicopter without telling anyone who she is or that she wants to meet with the president, she is totally getting shot down. You are supposed to inform people of this shit, not just show up on their doorstep all of a sudden.

I'm not saying the mage is in the right because he clearly has ulterior motives, but a single letter or literally any other method of communication would have ensured that they either had a safe pass into the capital (preventing the mage from doing whatever he wants) or they knew they weren't welcome in the kingdom.

@Acolytus Using your logic, you can't even send a letter since anyone you give it to to bring it to the other country just get shot on sight when getting near the frontier.

No, she isn't, she get intercepted by accredited people who ask for identification and if she does identify herself, as the MC did here and get shot down, 100% of the world is against you and you're the one at fault, don't act like you know how this works when you don't.

Having an established Noble go directly ask for an audience is how you open communication when it come to diplomacy, you don't send a random person with a letter and once again, using your logic, the random person get shot down on sight at the frontier because he didn't have his own letter announcing he'd come.

How the hell do you people think opening diplomatic discussion works ?

It might be about the time for Eliana to let the people of Threnvale know that her words are backed by nuclear weapons a cataclysmic dragon. So, attacking her will only invite their own doom. That's how strong-arm diplomacy works in realpolitik!

No.

Thing is : they knew who she was and she wasn't at their doorstep not even near it. She was still in her own country.

Yeah she was flying toward the wall. But she was talking about taking a break. Maybe she wanted to land close to the border and the go by walking? It's not like she was approaching the border with an army.

It's more like :
"If the princess of a foreign country travel in her own country in an attack helicopter near the border, she is totally getting shot down."
Which is wrong.

@forecast sounds good. Greed really should have come with her. If she died there, Greed would have burned down the whole planet.

Imagine if a princess riding a nuclear missle showed up at your nation borders?

What would the people in these comments do?

Looking at these comments, I figure they would let the nuke in.

But then again, the author does has a SM traits and truly enjoys tormenting the girl.

I would be with him if he didn't jump to murder against two people he clearly knew.

Yeah, it's kinda suspicious and it's a little dragon. Don't let them pass then. Notify the decision makers of both countries so a proper parley can be made. This is clearly just a dickhead acting on a grudge and/or self-interest.

@someunregpunk Greed would be that nuclear missile and he was told not to come. That tiny Dragon was classified as a Magical beast. Like Cloud, me and some others told you. (you behave like rather dumb people ... and you are that for not understanding/accepting the things we literally explain to you in every possible way)
Sry for using this insults but that is how you behave. first read and understand things, then bring valid arguments and if you can understand such things stay silent about it.

Sending a higher position also shows how sincere theyre country is about forming relationships. What the mage did was FAR overboard. Even today when someone with a nuclear missile approaches the border he will asked what he wants to do. Which again was NEVER done here.

oh and PS: I really hope that such people like you or all the people who directly call for destruction NEVER have the chance to be even near people who make such decisions. Because such people are the ones who create world wars and cause destruction for far too many people. They are not better or even worse than this mage asshole.

@BalrogDeMorgoth If the messenger (assuming there are no magical means of communication) doesn't go near the border on a goddamn dragon and still gets shot down, then it's safe to assume the country has no intention of engaging in diplomacy with you (or at least not peaceful diplomacy) and thus there is no reason to risk your ruler's waifu sending her there to negotiate. As shitty as it might sound, it's better to lose a messenger than the princess of your country.

Again, I'm not defending the mage here, I'm saying this asshole can do this shady shit knowing he can get away with it due to MC's actions. He is akin to a warmongering military officer in charge of the border, he has his own reasons to want a war with this foreign nation and knows that he can safely kill the envoys and then claim he thought they were an invading force or some bullshit like that. Had the king or at least a couple of high-ranking people been informed that an envoy was going to visit the kingdom and who she was, this asshole couldn't do shit without getting in trouble with the highers-ups.

And you do have to send some sort of warning that you plan to visit a foreign nation. A diplomatic visit isn't just some guy showing up out of nowhere, talking with the ruler for 5 minutes and then fucking off. The king is esentially allowing a foreign force to cross his lands (since the envoy will obviously have protection) and accomodating such a person would need quite a few days of work. You don't just send a princess out of nowhere, a lot of people must be informed of such an important event first. If you can't do this because the messenger got shot down, then obviously sending the princess there is an absolutely stupid idea.

@Clad95150 She was really close to that border fortress. I don't really know how borders work in this situation but I'm pretty sure that if you get that close to a foreign nation's border defenses, they are safe to assume you are tresspassing or at least intend to. It would be really stupid to set your defenses in such a way that someone riding a fucking dragon can get within fire-breathing distance and then go "haha I didn't cross the border line so you can't do shit". She got close enough to be withing striking range and I would say a dragon is as dangerous as an army, if not more.

The mage is a jackass but he is allowed to pull this shit because he knows he can deny knowing her or even talking to her and can just claim he saw a dragon approaching the fortress and defended it. He wouldn't have it so easy if his superiors knew of this visit and he was informed to let her through and/or if she approached the fortress in a way that couldn't be portrayed as an attack.

@Acolytus 'a Goddamn Dragon', Greed is a dragon, that thing is closer to an actual animal, if you shoot a noble on a horse because you're too dumb to make the difference between that and a wild Sleipnir, you're still 100% at fault.

And 'near the frontier' kinda mean 'right in the middle of her own kingdom' in this context and clearly, the mage is stronger than the 'muh dragon' so clearly the mage's country is the one putting dangerous stuff too close to other countries.

By your own logic, you're wrong and she was 100% right to come with the dragon because the other kingdom had a fortress close to HER borders.

No, that's not how you open diplomatic talk, you send someone important, you really have no idea how this work, how you can inform people of the meeting with a random messenger if even important nobles get attacked on sight ?

And ? it being a good idea or not doesn't change that it's the other country who is in fault and behaving badly, it can't be used to say the country who get attacked is the one in the wrong somehow.

You still will get condamned as a barbaric country and get a war on your ass with everyone saying you deserve even if you go 'd-d-dey dum, shoulda sent rando so me shoot rando instead', the basis of diplomacy is that YOU DON'T SHOOT ON SIGHT.
