I feel like this is a recurring thing in anime/manga and it's so annoying, I feel like it is only there to add more "padding" instead of being something the character did for a good reason.
A great example of this that I can think of is actually from the Shield series (Marvel).
Anyway, sure this was "foreshadowed" by her admitting to not being the sharpest tool in the shed, but still...

A great example of this that I can think of is actually from the Shield series (Marvel).
They were notified of a woman from Thor's world had arrived on Earth and that she could charm men easily with magic. What does Shield do? Sends mostly men, who surround the building while they send in their strongest female agent.
What happens? The "villain" escapes through the backdoor where the strongest male agent present is, and of course he gets charmed by her and that's the entire episode dragged out.
