Rework "Villainess" tag to include manga with male leads :rejected:

With the addition of the "Villainess" tag we now have manga that have all the appropriate story elements, but the protagonists aren't women. I propose a rework of the tag to be more inclusive. If the intent of the staff was for this tag to only be used for female leads, then I propose the creation of a second tag.

Villain has the same hangups that Villainess has, but that didn't stop anyone from thinking it was an okay tag. I agree of course, that Villain wouldn't work. There's already a lot of manga with villain leads.

"Evil male protagonist" wouldn't work because the protagonists aren't evil. They've just inherited the role of an evil character, despite their good nature.

Something along the lines of "Reverse Antagonist." Something that isn't gender specific.

If we're talking about the male counterpart, then "antihero lead"?

All the context for the "Villainess" tag is in its description, so any new tag could just have its context there, as well.

If folks are desperate to cling to "Villainess" then changing it to "Villainess/Villain" would be tolerable I guess.

maybe someone should start a campaign to brigade this. it is saddening to see that our male "villainess" got no tag.

@MoonlightFairy nah, that's too specific. MangaDex doesn't add character specific tags. It says so in the "Planned and Rejected Features" so it must be true. 🙃

Why it's too specific? The villainess tag itself already included inside the female protagonist. It's just the main lead is a female. A lot of shoujo manga has it. And please CMIIW, I couldn't find it in this forum, https://mangadex.org/thread/148705

Personally, no manga come to my mind when I try to think of something that fits this criteria. But you can always create a manga suggestions thread in the Manga forum.

That sounds like a good tag. Imo, "Faux" might not be the best word choice tho, as it's more of an uncommon word. Maybe "False" instead? Idk for sure what would be the best option.

--> Try Crimson Karma, it's pretty badass and has no romance whatsoever (so far).


But yeah, to get back to the overall conversation, I think a "female protag" and "male protag" sorting would at the very least help find some manga easier, villainess or not. Pretty sure you'd get all the villainess manga with "female protag" + "isekai" + "fantasty" or "historical", maybe "romance"
