I think some people got unaccustomed to the style of this manga, all because we left an arc with continuity (chapter 14 - chapter 23)
If y'all remember, the first chapters were like this one, with random situations with no relation more than "Frieren is traveling and arrived at a random village while looking for something else" there was no building up to Frieren arriving to certain place, nor for any of the party members recruitment. It's all mentioned in the same chapter that said characters were introduced.

[ul]*Fren: althought Priest Heiter did said on chapter 1 that Frieren should see him if she ever stopped at the Holy City, the manga skipped 20 years to that meeting, introduced Fren in ch 2, Heiter suggested that Frieren should adopt her and Frieren didn't but (accidentally) ended up making Fren her apprentice since she was tricked by Heiter to do so. All of this happened in chapter 2 (that was 34 pages long)

*Stark: Stark was introduced in chapter 10, althought it was already revealed that Eisen had a disciple, it wasn't until this chapter that it was revealed that Frieren was looking for a vanguard/warrior. It wasn't until chapter 11 that Stark formally joined Frieren's party. Take into account that chapter 9 was all the stuff about the "Heaven" thing and the posibility of seeing Himmel once more and that Frieren and Fren were going to start said journey. All the building up about Stark's recruitment was in the chapter he was introduced

*Sein: Right now Sein seems to be the next character that will join Frieren's party, we got a little introduction and background about him and now we had a reason to recruit him, all of this revealed THIS chapter. And lets remember that Sein hasn't formally joined Frieren's Party since he rejected her, she just said she wanted to be comrades. If anything, Sein will probably join the party next chapter.[/ul]
The only thing that this chapter did a little wrong was that the pace was a little off and it was a little more "comedic" than other chapters, jumping from scene to scene like a 4-koma.
I bet the story is gonna kept the "episodic" chapter thing until the next major arc

French does. There is even 2 adjectives for venemous if it is a plan or an animal :)
That's different. French has a specific word ("venimeux" iirc) for a poison that comes from an animal, but poisonous animals, like ex. pufferfish, are also referred to as "venimeux", despite being "poisonous" in English.
So it's different from "venomous", which refers only to animals that use poison actively, usually to hunt or fight.
And a plant can never be venomous, as it can only apply poison passively.

the author really said fuck it and ramped the comedy setting for this chapter up by 50%
i'm not complaining, this was hilarious
the dry humor is even more pronounced than usual

@wickerbottom i assume that because of the previous party set up, himmel is hero, frieren is mage, heiter is priest and eisen is warrior
maybe frieren is more like a tutor rather than party member
since fern is already a mage, stark is a warrior and sein is a priest, there is possibility for another member like himmel in the future
also maybe they will met with another demon-king level of danger or worse

Since human has short lifespan, they can't learn everything like Frieren does. So I think, specialist is someone who spends the rest of their life only to learn specific theme of magic.

@edgarsc19 if they meet another demon-king level, that hero some how they random found on street will not able do anything. Hero is person connect people in party, fight side by side with his companion form begin of journey, raise morale... Himmel not strongest hero, but that hero trait made him success (strongest hero from south still killed by demon general). If defeat demon king require some one stronger than demon king then it would bring this manga to same level to another trash isekai manga.

@deathpad Fern already master her magic enough to kill high level demon while still very young. I don' think you need whole life to master a specific theme of magic.

@welcome2atlantis Judging by the nosebleed, probably if it's translated into scientific terms: it's a venom that cause haemorhaging, destroying blood veins or something similar which then will "melt the brains" (causing brain haemorrhage or stroke). The priest just interptreting it in magic and medieval understanding.

@wickerbottom not really, having a stronger main character than the antagonist doesn't always make a bad story, and maybe the state of frieren now is stronger or way stronger than any demon king out there. it really depends on how the author tells the story though.

and this hero doesn't have to be someone strong like himmel, maybe he/she is a faker, a commoner, a pretender descendant of a hero, a comic character without any connection to himmel, only just his admirer. But by venturing with frieren and party, in the end he/she will realize what it takes to be a hero. just maybe

@edgarsc19 Frieren take Fern because Heiter request. After that she want a vanguard, but Eisen too old to wield axe, so she take his pupil. It is danger to travel without healer, then a priest is necessary (even that reason, Frieren still hesitate). I don't know how people still think someone else after that 4 member could even fit in, not saying that even a HERO. What purpose of hero, why Frieren need a hero, to replace Himmel? What role of hero in party? Another physical dam deal (Stark one shot dragon is OP enough), a child (no we alrealdy have 3 child), a man (we have Fern, no need another mother or father). Add party member for fun is someone like Luffy would do, not a 1000 year self isolate elf.

I'm really happy she's building a new party even if she didn't realize it was leading to this at first when she took up fern as an apprentice

@wickerbottom why not? story could be fabricated however we want. things doesn't have to be the same as other story to be good nor it has to be different to be great. Maybe this hero could be as a comic relief character, or maybe the male elf frieren met in previous chapter is the Hero figure, maybe he is a veteran old knight who wanted to die a hero but fail to do so since he is a coward, maybe he/she is a young knight with a sense of justice but with lack of information about the world out there, maybe he/she is commoner or maybe a fraud.
my point is there is so many way to fit in a new character in this story since there are only 4 character now ( hell even one piece have many character that could fit in luffy's party), there are so many possibility.

what you must emphasize is that it's only an opinion and i have the right to think of that and also you have the right to think that my opinion is false too. "I don't know how people still think someone else after that 4 member could even fit in", that's your problem not mine nor people who are able to think of that. whatever the author decide to add 1 more party member or not is up to him/her, but whichever is fine. i only think of possibility and there is nothing wrong with that.

@Watermelonn They've been traveling for a year. Prior to that the mage girl was training for a few years, then they found prodigy warrior Stark and now the prodigy priest real fast. I mean it's a rather insignificant thing but I just pointed that out.

Agreed, and structure-wise it's quite clearly rebuilding her past party on purpose. In this setup Frieren IS the hero (a real one this time, sorry Himmel lol), Fern is the mage, Axe boy is his master and now we have the priest. And the only unchanging piece is Frieren.

Do you know what hit me this chapter? Every single one, begind with recounting how much time has passed since Himmel died. But, as the story progresses, even I find myself not thinking about Himmel when he's not being brought up. That is to say, even I as the reader, a *human* reader, start to forget about Himmel and the past (the first chapters) as I read along week by week. But then, every time a new chapter starts and every time Himmel si being brought up by Frieren, it hits me again! And that's just it. People move on, people change, loose interest or find new things to think about. But Frieren doesn't. She doesn't forget, nothing is fading. It's probable that each chapter starts the way she starts each day, just to keep track of time. But the *things she says* do not change, not in close to 30 chapters now. And the time passed since Himmel's death is always the very first thing she recounts, only then moving on to where they are and possibly what they are doing. If humans were like a blackboard you can write on and then erase it to make space for new things, she's like an old streetlamp with a 15cm-thick layer of posters and adverts stapled to it over one another, but not one of them is ever thrown away. They just accumulate and you can see every one by just lifting the the top layers..

Well. That was a thing I thought about. And now I'm all melancholy again. Shit shit shit.

Oo. Another point: the reason the hates Sein, I think, is because he behaves exactly the same way she did when Himmels wanted to recruit her, I take it.

@monozuki Your point about the chapter intros is brilliant and I can't believe I didn't work that out sooner. It seems absolutely intended to parallel Frieren's own thoughts. Maybe it really is a daily routine of hers to remind herself about Himmel and the others so she doesn't regress back to being apathetic towards the world. It's also interesting to note that Himmel is becoming more important to Frieren as the story progresses, making his influence on the setting's events through her impressions of him greater than when he was alive.

That, along with it being the most logical explanation for the party composition, makes me think Frieren being the true hero is the most likely outcome. There's also the whole deal with revealing that Himmel wasn't the true hero setting off all sorts of flags.
