Magic works by spirits taking your magic power and doing what you ask of them. Anise, for whatever reason (probably her isekai roots), is hated by the spirits

Except she wasn't about to succeed anything. Her dream is to be able to use magic, which she still can't do, and wouldn't be able to do if she had to focus on actually ruling, which she has literally zero education for. You can't get by just because you give common folk good vibes.

She fucked up the whole situation with her brother, and sees the throne as a burden she HAS to inherit to make up for her fuck up, and in the process she has to abandon her dream, and without the throne she is left with neither dream nor atonement.

So while no, they shouldn't have jumped her with this solution that still requires a sacrifice just for her sake (again), her actually going through with it would be a bad end too because she would be miserable for the rest of her reign.
