Well firstly, these two best friends were wholesome and adorable and I wish more had a relationship like this. Straight up BFFS.
And really, the princes kinda resembled their friends, so that they'd be attracted in this way isn't strange and also cute in its own way.

....At the same time, this completely took all agency from the ladies and out in public was not the time or place to spring this on them. Kind of a dick move, and if the girls weren't into it, the tone would've turned out quite differently.

That said, it might be a matter of limited time and wanting to fit the villainess plot structure If the author to this one gave it a fair shake and elaborated the full romantic journey, I'd be all over it.

i realise the author wanted to use the condemnation event trope that the girls were trying to avoid, as a climax.... but the way the girls' feelings and voice were dismissed had a bad effect

that being said, it's one of my fav villainess short stories because of the girls, they're so adorable and good i want to give them a hug

@sadrobot: even so, the guys did this on their own, they didn't ask the girls' opinion at all. Moreover, that 1st prince was trash, he treated his fiancee coldly, then broke the engagement all by himself, he has been taught to live for the people of his country yet he was so trashy toward Mariclace, while the 2nd prince at least treated Eumilla better.

In defence of the princes - if your politically appointed fiancee starts upselling her friend (your brothers fiancee) at every date you have with her, and you've had a magical meeting with your brothers fiancee when you fell in love with her, and you know both fiancees are close friends.. wouldn't it seem like they're implying "hey, you should switch over to her instead, and incidentally free me to get your brother"?

So the lack of previous communication from the part of the princes might have been a wrongful guess that this was a shared agreement (done by code so gossippy servants wouldn't start spreading rumors) and then it was done with maximum publicity to make it clear for all that there's no bad blood between the princes (nor the future princesses).

Breaking their engagements in front of a crowd put pressure on the king (that was the original reason for this scene in every villainess trope in the first place lol) and with their accomplishments, I’m sure the princes would’ve receive the mob and citizens’ support. They put the king in a bind and "forced" him to accept. Imo, I think it’s a smart move. At last, they took their future finances seriously.
And Eumillia or smth wasn’t treated better. If u think abt it, acting all kind to her while don’t giving a shit is as shitty. Now, they’re "seeing" and are serious abt them.
