I find myself liking the commander more and more. Despite the insanity of trench warfare he manages to instill proper procedure on their limited supply of healing while also training her to survive. He's very rough and seemingly cold-hearted, but given his circumstances how could he be anything but

The bit where he shoots up the flare and coolly notes that they were the only survivors on that line is so evocative. Can't imagine what he's been through, and how many subordinates he'd have die on him thus far
