Should the ideal of platonic love be put into practice, or is it a myth?

But here's the thing, if you ever found a single soul who could love you platonically, romantically, or whatever the type of love it may called, that's the very rare soul that we must treasure the most. Just stating the fact. Not everyday we can see a shooting star like that.

For those, who is wondering: "wtf is platonic love?" (like I do)
Here is the wikipedia's page of it.
So, if I understand it clearly, it's a type of relationship where the lovey-dovey stuff (including seggs) is nonexistant.
TL;DR: you are in a bestfriend relationship with someone...

If I understand this concept clearly, should I consider that I am in a platonic relationship with my close family members?

To be honest with ya, the concept is too abstract for me to understand and comprehend since i have no friends IRL.

"Should we put it in practice?"
Idk... the ideal looks cool but I personally don't have the social skills to put that in practice yet.

"Or is it a myth?"
There is some cases where the platonic relationship can last way longer than it should be, but in most cases, there is always a time where it evolves into a romantic relationship or devolve into a basic friendship one.

Out of context but, there actually is this manga that I am currently having in mind when typing this lol.
So you like your friend a little bit more than the other?

It may be special... but you are more likely to find platonic love since it's everywhere! That's what I am talking about!
I'm the type who don't shares love too many to just anyone. I love myself so much. I don't have any friendship, so I called anything than romantic relationship as an acquaintanceship, situationship, seasonalship or a new family.

@Aluminium_Spaghetti would be so surprised to see I'm being here and talking about this, he would be shocked when he wakes up :dogkek:

Don't be sad Al13, I don't form any strong bond relations with just anyone, so if we talk almost daily and almost about anything, I'm pretty sure we could form a good friendship, but like I ever said, I tend to see myself don't belongs to any groups, any circles or any communities, cuz I am well aware I'm this bonkers, split personality isn't just a myth, so if we get along then we get along, if we don't then you do you, I'll do mine. I'm that simple.

As Al13 and almost everybody else awakens, I shall go to sleep.
Oh, how I love it when forum activity spikes when I'm offline and I'm missing out on all the fun.

The worst part is that "platonic love" comes from a bad understanding of Plato where someone wanted to justify it with a confused myth, that's why I voted myth. Said myth was a misconception of the duality of the being, and it was told in a made-up form like this: "at first, all beings were one but they were split in two as in one male part and a female part and they long to become one again". I repeat, this has nothing to do with Plato or Greek mythology despite the claims.
I see your point, but you're cynicism saddens me. :meguuusad: No need to dig so deep into etymology if most people use the word the same way. I don't actually mean "platonic", but English doesn't have enough accurate vocabulary for people to understand what I mean. That's why we use idioms and metaphors to make up for the inherent flaws of language. If accuracy is the sole goal of communicating, how would anyone express what life means to them?

First of all, I didn't say you can't use it in the sense you're doing so, just how ironical it was that one option was "myth". And well, using "cynicism" when you're not referring to Diogenes of Sinope's philosophy only makes it more hilarious. Accuracy in usage of language is what makes the communication act successful since you're worried about it, the more crude the less you'll be able to communicate. But to answer again the same question, "platonic love" is a mix of concepts that causes confusion as time passes.

If when communicating you're trying to convey information, this is correct. When it's applied to communicating emotions, I disagree. Body language isn't always accurate, but it accounts for a large portion of communication done in person. For the rest of what you're saying, I'm too lazy and or ignorant and or apathetic to interpret. So you're probably right, but I'm fine with that as long as I don't know what you're right about.
