I am actually positive that the dragon will survive. The author seems to write believable stuff and very forgiving.
Our Mc survives mostly by luck, and most of his companions survive they just split up. I don't see much tragedy on his adventures.

Then I saw the dead dragon and thought "Maybe he can steal this kill for level-ups." But now he is a dragon dad, and I really hope he doesn't end up needing to kill it for power.
