Warning: Some of this is speculation and best guesswork.

Prime Ojisan:
  • We've seen him once before, just a back shot (beginning of ch 2).
  • And yeah, priestess definitely getting steamy there! :D Anddd... She's still cookin in the last panel.
  • Ryuu is cute, but nice to see her complete badass form.
  • Incidentally... He's pretty much a muscle brain -- but even muscle brains can learn and dispense some real wisdom.
  • Note that his flowers are black. The flowers that we've seen before have been white -- so presumably from the princess.
  • Seriously, I never would have imagined that flowers popping off from some guy could be completely badass!

Demonic Sword
  • The big lore surprise here is that the sword itself has a spirit. Sword really wants to kill demons. Presumably the sword spirit used to be a person -- a person with a massive hate-boner for demons.
  • And LOL at prime ojisan punching it to knock some sense into it.
  • Ryu gets the sword back in ch 7 from an inn in the hidden elf village. And we were told that it was left by the Elven king for someone who would take it later. (BTW, LOL Ryu at that time literally said "This blade has spirit." GG translator!) (Elven King = Spirit King? See below.)
  • In that story she was calling the young (fake tanned) punk a "yakuneta" probably meaning "nuisance" as referred to here.
  • Sequela: "an aftereffect of a disease, condition, or injury" I.e. princess Ryu's current condition is a "sequela" due to using the sword?
  • Princess' injury goes back to ch 46, page 5. That page also alludes to the four leaders and sword master of that time.
Who is the Spirit King?
  • Ch 18, p 2 mentions the Spirit King Jabin (elves?), Wise Queen Thalia (beast people? pope predecessor?), Sea King Kanaloa (Merfok??), Steel King Dango (Dwarf), plus Swordmaster Ryu Lundberg (human hero, predecessor of current line of kings & queens of Lundberg). So Spirit King is Elf King?
  • There are also the "Great Spirits". Dragon Mama is daughter of Dragon Laolong of that time period; Dragon Laolong had power on the order of these spirits. Water spirit in Daniemi was referred to as "Great Spirit Undine". (Ch 12 p 22.)
  • The entity that brought Ryuumatsu to this world was a divine being of higher order than Dragon Mama (according to her).
  • That entity looked male to me -- so it's probably not the goddess.
  • I'm going to call that entity the "Samsara God".
  • So we have "great spirits" but the "spirit king" is the king of the elves? Also, elves reside in the "Spirit World".
  • I'm thinking that I'm missing some other reference to the spirit king, but IDK where it was.
  • Shrine maidens borrow the power of spirits by letting themselves be possessed by the spirit.
  • Here: The Spirit King is the one who healed a shrine maiden w/o removing the possessing spirit. (Presumably intentionally keeping the spirit in place.)
  • So it looks like the Elven King (Spirit King) is deeply involved in this. He's immortal (even to elves), so this is likely the same Spirit King that was around at the time that the Demon King was first defeated, split and buried. And he also left the sword in the Hidden Village to later be picked up by Ryuu. And he must have known that the sword has its own spirit.
Reincarnation or Possession?
  • LOL! After arguing it so much over the course of the series, I'm back at "IDK!"
  • Initial setup is made to look like possession, but then author gives plenty of hints that it's "reincarnation" (including the title itself, the word Samsara, Usain/Bolt names, similarity in personalities, etc.) But now it's unclear again.
  • The main objection to "reincarnation" now is that if it's just reincarnation (same soul, different personalities), then you would think that the priestess would recognize that immediately and say so. But she doesn't.
  • Priestess says that it's not possession, more like demonic corruption, that the two are so entangled that it's hard to tell who is the host. But also that it's not offputting.
  • Perhaps a joining of similar souls by the effort of a divine being?
  • Of maybe it is reincarnation and the author is just trying to throw us off the trail
  • Maybe it is different souls, but Ryumatsu was added at Princess birth and just didn't manifest until later. This is a little convoluted, but it fits well -- it explains Usain/Bolt naming and why Princess/Ojiisan are so tightly connected.
  • Or maybe princess is acting like a shrine maiden and borrowing the power of Ryumatsu by letting him possess her. (Though this doesn't quite fit since priestess says the link isn't like possession.)
Misc.
  • Six rulers/kings. (ch 24, etc.) These are the current rulers of the various races/groups:
    Sword Master/King of Lundberg;
    Merchant King of Daniemi;
    Dragon King of Dunia;
    Pope of Artemite;
    Steel King of Cradle Grave;
    Spirit King of Elves
  • Six bodies of the demon king. (Dunia: Jaw; Cradle Grave: Eye; Lundberg: Heart, ??, ??, ??) So there's at least some correspondence between body parts and kingdoms.
  • Races: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Merfolk, Harpies, Beast people
  • I'm guessing a general "Beast People" race with Pope and a few others as examples. (Includes Harpies?)

This is starting to remind me of another reincarnation-type isekai, that also happens to be a gender-bender one.

In "Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta!", there was a similar plot point. MC was a guy from our world that was isekai'ed into his character from a video game. Throughout the entire series, the MC keeps speculating about what happened to the original soul of the body he is possessing. Eventually, you find out that it's the exact same soul: When the original Lufasu was sealed away, her soul was sent to our world and reincarnated as a guy with no memories. The game he played was made by one of Lufasu's subordinates to help awaken his memories. Which.. only half worked.

So I am thinking this might be a similar situation: There was only ever one soul and either the princesse' soul was sent to earth for a while, became the ojisan, and then went back or the ojisan was reincarnated as the princess originally without his memories and then only later were his memories awakened.

@Toloran Hmm... The last theory is the straightforward reincarnation theory that I've been running with. (Ryumatsu is just a past live of Princess Ryuu.) Note that there's another hint: That Princess Ryuu was the one who named Usain and Bolt while she was young -- signifying that she already had bits of his knowledge.

So if I had to bet, then I would bet that author is just trying to throw us off the trail at this point, and that it is straight reincarnation.

Update: Oh, thought of an interesting theory (which I've now added to my original wall of text): Maybe it is different souls, but Ryumatsu was added at Princess birth and just didn't manifest until later. This is a little convoluted, but it fits well -- it explains Usain/Bolt naming and why Princess/Ojiisan are so tightly connected.
