Don't you think that during the warring periods in Asia or the medieval ages in europe that every commoner man knows that weakness = death? While MC's like this are written to think that their life has any value in this particular fantasy setting.

Its one thing for him to be on the losing end of the discussion (reflecting his naivety and lack of experience) and thus resolve himself to become stronger/seek revenge, BUT its an entirely different thing to have him be a doormat with a victim mindset.
