That's the thing, though. We can't definitively say he
doesn't care about collateral damage, since there hasn't
been any. For me, unrest caused by his actions doesn't count. That was calculated. It also wasn't shown; no revolution has taken place on page. I'm talking about unplanned, innocent deaths
directly caused by his actions.

Ok, then please provide
evidence of his supposed morals. So far, I've read that his soul wasn't cleansed before returning, and that his unsealed dark power will corrupt his soul. When dealing with the princess,
he had to tell himself to not kill her yet. He was literally fighing his instincts, just so he could cause her more suffering. Not out of pity or anything benign, no, it was pure malice winning over anger. He depises "having a sense of justice". There is evidence that he is aware that what he's doing is not 'good'.
There is not a shred of evidence that he believes what he's doing is
wrong. There
is evidence that he
might not even be
aware of the 'wrongness' of his actions, due to corruption.
