Are these maggots actual ddosers or just reckless scrapers like those that plagued batoto?

So it was a ddos attack then? Was wondering why Cloudfare was suddenly asking me to identify traffic lights. But at any rate is everything back to normal now?

Things are mostly back to normal. It was a heavier than usual ddos this morning. I took the opportunity to do some updating to the servers and also restarted them (long overdue). It took a few hours to rebuild the cache, but that's all done now and a normal service is resuming.

I still can't escape the DDoS attack, the only way I can read is by using VPN 😲
Thank goodness for VPN feature on opera

beginning to wonder if you are always under heavy ddos or the servers are just trash and can't handle normal traffic.... i mean it is a constant thing so hard to tell

Just wondering, did this ever happen to Batoto? Or does someone have an especial bee in their bonnet for MDex?

Let me give some context about pass DDOSing I have seen. Way back a couple of years the japan equal to the (USA MIAA, RIAA mafia groups). Started to make a big stink in Japan. They were going after anybody and everybody. The caveat was only Japan based groups were being taken down.

Skip ahead a couple of weeks, and all of a sudden Anime groups not based in Japan were being attacked. The Horriblesubs "HS" group was knocked off a couple of days. The torrent tracker affiliated with HS was totally busted by DDOS attack, never came back. A new tracker was created. The HS group was and has been under attack since then. Popular anime Durarara and monster musume no iru nichijou was hard to get at the time. As well as many others.

Let's fast forward to a time a couple of months pass. Mangadex "MD" became very popular, to say at least in the top ten manga category. MD is now under attack, off and on, light and heavy. This all came to a real head after the latest chapter of monster musume no iru nichijou was posted on MD. Later that same day the attack intensified and didn't stop.

Take from this:
There are some groups, individuals and corporations that don't like anime and manga posting forums.
Nothing is going to change that.

Want to get an idea how wide spread the hate is. Go to google translate and enter Japanese terms. The translations have been corrupted.

@Fuko what is the point of ddosing a free site

There is no point, also read my previous comment.

To all MD is under heavy burden to fund operating and anti-ddos costs. Please consider donating to reduce the burden. I normally would not donate to what could be a disappearing operation. But I did get off my ass without an incentive and donated to MD.

Only to find out later MD is giving out "unspecified at this time" a incentive to those that do.
One time or recurring donations are taken. Paypal is an option for a one time donation.

Now more than ever it's time to get off your posture and act.

Assuming cloudfaire and whatever other security things were already going to be purchased and maintained (and they work), does the ddosing actually cause any significant harm? I know whoever is doing it doesn't really need a real reason or even results, but are they actually accomplishing anything?

I would assume their goal, now that the ddos protection stuff is mostly working and keeping end-users mostly untroubled, is to make things extremely inconvenient to the people running MD. But they seemingly just need to do some fiddling with settings and resetting stuff to keep everything running fine. I'm not at all familiar with this sort of thing, but I'm still quite curious if someone has any insight to this.

Too bad we don't have an expert hacker who would be willing to "turn the tables" on the idiots ddosing and give them a nice taste of what it is like to have their computers "accidently" reformat their drives.
