I mean not the same manga, but I always felt it was kinda weird that a hug between Shinji and Misato when he chose to stay instead of boarding a train was commented on something like "disgusting" by two of his friends looking on. Is Japan even worse than the dominant US culture online about personal affection in public? Seems kinda ludicrous to me.
