I think 3.5 falls on the d20 open liscense so I don't think it's illegal to use the game rules as long as they don't say the actual name.

Doesn't this manga just end once he gets polymorph? Or is he not allowed to gain HP even if he transfers bodies? What about magic jar?

Mc needs to be very careful about his assumptions.
He has already seen that effects of basing every decision from the information provided by the book, as he almost got killed by the Lawful-Good-but-more-like-Lawful-Evil Paladin. Just because he read in the book that the mind flayer is lawful evil, and to a sense he would be lawful, he may not be following MC's understanding of law, and get squished like a bug sooner or later.

The weirdest thing about this manga...is how it hasn't got a C&D notice from Hasbro (who owns Wizards of the Coast who owns D&D).
It is possible to use actual D&D mechanics in a work through an open license agreement, but mind flayers, especially the term illithid, is not in the IP package that WotC open licenses, and the terms are trademarked (at least in the US).

Japan doesn't have fair use in their copyright and no nominative use for trademarks, which is why brand names in things have to bland-inated; e.g. beholders in Dragon's Crown were instead "gazers".

I say with certainty that in all the years of playing DND I have never worked with a Mind Flyer. Now the only thing I want to do in any next game is work with one.

Just a stupid question, I guess I'll be dropping this soon if I still don't get it. x roll dice y faces, what is 'faces' suppose to mean?
I don't play DND games I didn't even know games like that exist.

'Faces' refers to the number of sides on the die. So take a d6, which is what most people think of when they think of dice. There are 6 sides, so you can roll anywhere between 1 and 6. Then we have the d20, probably the most commonly used die for dnd. It has 20 sides, so when you roll it you can get anywhere from 1 to 20. So basically, consider the number after the d to be the max possible role for a single die (e.g. 1d12 = role once, with a max possible result of 12 (and a minimum of 1)).

@Daviot
I mentioned this in one or two of the chapter comment sections, but the manga does switch out those terms for wacdonald style substitutes. Mind flayers = brain eaters, magic missile = magic bolt, beholder = dogezaemon, Illthid is more like Ullthad, etc.

@Dump
die/dice (with)
e.g. 10d10 = 10 dice with 10 sides
5d6 = 5 dice with 6 sides
1d20 = 1 die with 20 sides

@ViralSam
thanks

@azhuresky
thanks much for the detailed explanation, the only game I played with dice was snake and ladder, lol, so i thought dice are just square cube and didn't thought of any other shapes.
