Thought that he'd try to get more leads on the merchant guy, but nah I guess.
I can see why. There's too many places to check for 2 months, and a good portion of them would be military secrets. With how little he knows, it would likely lead to bad outcomes even if he got there.

After all, those merchants might have been taken to the other kingdom anyway.

p22:

It's just that even though you are from another world you look no different from the people in our world

Freya has the most rational reaction in an isekai. When I first started reading other-world stories, it always bugged me that everybody looks human-ish, there's no problem with eating or drinking, and the air is breathable. Add haremy-style stories, and we find out not only do all the bits and bobs fit, they are also genetically compatible and can produce a viable fetus. Imagine an isekai where a poor kid is smacked by a truck and is summoned to an ammonia planet inhabited by slimes.

Also this (slightly nsfw adult situation nothing very explicit): superman is an alien

Frankly, it annoys me more that for all the isekai out there, basically all of them are the same cut & copy fantasy European-ish setting. Why not more sci-fi isekai? Or as you pointed out, an actual alien world isekai.
There's no isekais out there, as far as I know, that are anything like the game Another World.

It's the safest bet, that's really all it is. Publish what's hot or easy and avoid what could be considered uncertain.

Remember: Isekai is so synonymous with the monotonous, repeated structure that you'd be forgiven for forgetting that there was a time where they DIDN'T reference the fact that Isekai exists as a genre in their own stories and lines like "Is this what you call another world!?" and "Cheat skills" weren't a thing.

This means they're easy to write and sell off because most of the work is already done for you by the genre itself. You don't have to create character development, drama, conflict or even establish a personality because the genre doesn't need them. You just need some random "average" guy and a bunch of breasts and your job as an author is done.

It doesn't matter that the average person doesn't know basic infrastructure, economics, engineering, agriculture or anything required to build a functioning society, the character can and no one reading will bat an eye, take your check and go home for the day.

Even if your work gets cancelled, it doesn't matter because you can literally do it all over again with some tweaks here and there and still move a bunch of copies until the day that gets cancelled and then you can do it again and so on. Simple, repeatable, effective, efficient, profitable. It's the dream scenario for publishers and would-be authors alike. So the stories that actually try something different will inevitably be few and far between because that's either not what the publisher is looking or the author just isn't interested in writing outside the box.

Do people think this is monotous? I think the setting is fairly interesting so far.

If I understood it correctly from the first chapter, the mana is in the air. That is why it seems like he couldn't use it in their original world. Although, the way it was said then could imply that the actual laws of the world are different, like a simple Does magic exist: yes or no.

Did bro really just translate a line in p7 as "Jesus Christ"? 💀

Was that really what the Japanese writer wrote? I'm sure there are better ways to translate whatever was written there, no?

This is not a major issue, don't get me wrong, but it does slightly ruin immersion.

it just said "phew..." im just using it as an expression nothing too deep, had it been someone from the magic world i wouldnt have use it but since he is from our world i didnt think it was too big of a deal, at least i didnt use the slang of the week/month lol

I will give you the fact that Christians and Catholics in Japan make less than 2% of population so the chances of him actually saying "jesus christ" as an expression would be pretty low so you have the right to be a little annoyed.

There already are sci-fi isekai? Off the top I can already think 2 of them.

Why not >>>MORE<<< sci-fi isekai?
I get that there are already sci-fi isekais, and I can think of a couple off the top of my head too, but they're hardly common in a genre that should be exceptionally broad in its scope and vision, but has essentially niched down into what I was complaining about (the fantasy ye old European inspired setting).

Isekai has essentially become the punching bag of japanese media for its lack of creativity and originality.
The fact that you and I can only think of a couple of sci-fi themed isekai off the tops of our heads, despite the dozens upon dozens of isekai being made, shows just how stagnant the genre is.

And I make these complaints as someone who reads (and usually enjoys) a lot of this trash.
