He complains she never let him spoil her when he never tried and deliberately suppressed her freedoms to support his fragile ego. and did not even try to comfort her when her father died and complains she never complained about her sadness, when at the funeral scene in the other version she is obviously devastated and trying to force herself to keep it together, and all he does is start to put his hand up and put it back. Asking is for comfort is not required, if you care about the you try anyway.

That and the blatant attempt got steal her credit and money... seriously the entire meeting feels like an attempt to get her to agree to something that he would turn against her after a while.

Also, did't his older brother inherit the trading firm, shouldn't he need big bro's permission first before saying she can no longer deal with them because she forced an employee to admit to his non-company (personal life) misdeeds...

@That_1_Gal : having to be threatened with a lawsuit to publicly admitting you misdeeds means he is not acknowledge his mistakes. Same for not telling the MC where things went wrong. he is more concerned with his reputation and appearance to to acknowledge and address issues.

@mangolover : The insecurity issues could be worth pity, if he had not cheated on her, stole credit for her work (there is no way I am accepting he did not know he was going to break off the engagement at that point), broke the engagement at the last second, tried to fast talk her out of her half of the house, and did not come clean about the "patents" in his name alone (seriously how long did he expect it to take for this to come out, and why the F did he think she would be OK with him just transferring rights to the funds, it should have been brought up at the engagement annulment at the latest)

@zz2000 : it could have worked, it was basically an arranged marriage and those did work for centuries. As long as both parties commit themselves to it, Dhalia tried to and seems to have respected him before this (more important for marital longevity then a crush, since the divorce rate is heavily influenced by people marrying to fast for the wrong reasons). But Tobias made it not work due to his idiocy and inadequacy issues.

I kind of find it hilarious that what was the final blow to his ego was, her telling him she viewed him as her senior.

I mean he knows how independent and capable she is that she doesn’t need to rely on him. Yet even knowing all that, he accused her of acting out because of the engagement cancelation. Being who she is, even if that was the case, she wouldn’t show weakness to him. His monologue said as much. What was he hoping for? She’d just finally reveal a moment of weakness and let him in her heart and they’d start over? Had he been thinking straight he’d see asking such a thing is meaningless as he’d get the same answer no matter what she really felt.

@sjmcc13 To add. This was done within the month. This means he likely filed this pattern while he was screwing around with another woman.

This husband of hers is really petty

1) Oh hey my wife is very independent, how about I make things harder for the one I vow to be together with in hardships and make her suffer by making her change her appearances and adding more work which I won't do while getting all the credits so she can depend on me later.
2) Um....yeah let's divorce, though all your inventions are entitled to me only so I get to keep your hard work while you.....good luck with that
3) Oh you only see me as your senior.....and you want to void that contract? FINE but don't work with the company I own with your blood, sweat, and tears anymore.

Many people will hate me for this but as much as rotten bastard Tobias is, I can't help but thinking that Dahlia contribute a bit for the whole broken engagement situation.
Marriage relationship is give and take, you give your kindness and take their kindness, you give your sadness and as well take theirs. Dahlia sadly didn't do that, she only gives and not taking to herself, she's self sacrificing herself out of duty not because she likes it and Dahlia confirmed it herself in the story.

I have met some cases on real life girls that looks like Dahlia, forming relationship due to duty for having a family (you may not believe it but yes in some Asia countries there's still a stigma that forming a family and bear lots of children is a woman's duty to their parents, not because they want or likes the guy), and most of them ended with divorce or even broke out during engagement. This is rare cases in Western world but since the author is from Asia I think I can relate why Dahlia go for marriage she didn't really wish or love.

So I want to be fair and think Dahlia have a portion on her broken engagement and I think that's also what the author trying to convey, otherwise there's no need for Tobias backstory, just make him ultimate villain and all good like many otome manga out there though this manga is too realistic to taken that route.

But still, Dahlia made mistakes yet she's willing to step forward and fix it. Now she decide to do things she likes herself and for herself, that's the whole point of this entire opening story. My opinion is limited to their engagement things, so his action to stole the copyrights and about their house ownership is totally dick move and should be burn in hell for it alone.

what kind of dumb f*** do you have to be to steal credit for your fiance's work when the very guild you registered the items in knows she was the developer while planning to further screw her over and marry someone else?
leaving aside she's the MC and you never try to screw the MC, the first time she goes in about the item it's gonna be painfully clear what you did, you will not only lose whatever tiny shreds of dignity and respect you had left, you will lose the trust of the guild and of ALL other inventors who ever find out what you did AND most of your customers who have any sense of decency will find other routes to obtain anything you don't hold a monopoly of, which, barring things obtained via family connections, sounds like literally NOTHING you failure of an inventor
it's a one way path to ruin as a business man and an inventor, and YOU DID IT ANYWAYS

"Dahliya Wilts No More" is an english phrase in the Japanese raw site. Dahlia is a flower so it makes for a cute pun. Wonder if it should get added as an alt title to the manga?

@bramhistory I understand what your trying to say and would agree with you to an extent if I hadn’t read the other series chapter.
He looked the other way to her quite obvious moments of weakness where she could have used the support.
And when you think about it, his unreasonable demands were to make her invisible and in his shadow, taking her success as his own. She probably felt unable to take, in the relationship, only to give. He only requested such after all.

Had she refused to follow his demands, based on his thoughts and actions so far, he’d have only distance himself faster. He had no intention of trying to make it work, all his actions were driven by greed and jealousy. Not once were we shown anything else.

@bramhistory. I for my part don't hate you as I believe I got your point and even share it. He, in his way, tried to make a loveless relationship work. He tried to lay the foundation for a love, that might grow in the years to come, and he was on the lookout for things, that might come from her side, and it failed. (Their have been thing she did for him, like changing her hair color for him, but he failed to acknowledge those.)

I have been in a relationship with a girl and we had our share of conflicts. And she did quite some things "for me" on her own, that I didn't want and I even hated. Little things that have been unnecessary and would have made me look like a jackass, if they would become publicly known. I told her I didn't want that, but she continued to do those little deeds and surly enough she brought them up in fights as things she did to "make our relationship work". Well, it had the opposite affect on me. This here isn't such a case.

Alright, it would have been an arranged marriage and what he did wasn't wrong so far. But if you are THAT invested into it, you shouldn't give up, after the strongest factions (his father and his master) involved in forming that marriage die off. Breaking it off after they died was a scummy move. Well, still better then ending in a loveless marriage. Better for both sides. Yet he took the house (and even only wanted to vouch with his 'good' name and promise to pay her back [ I believe him wanting to pay back the 50 goldcoins honestly for NOW, but I wonder for how long that mindset would have hold true], instead of taking a loan) , kept his name not only in the registration of the new products, but even went so far to register them under his own name without informing her. Those don't tell you the story of a husband, that tries to create a working relationship, but of somebody, who either tries to take total financial control in the marriage or already knew, that he would leave her for his affair and was planing for it.

Well, too bad if he didn't create anything worth of registering in the time under his master himself. She was his fellow JUNIOR apprentice, daddies darling or not, and she still make new inventions. He had the same position. He did not. Not her fault. Not her father's. Not the situation's.

He was in a loveless relationship he took on willingly on himself. He thought she might be won over by him and that it might work, but he didn't succeed. Yes, she is partly to blame by accepting this engagement, even so she couldn't see more in him, than a colleague. But he shouldn't try to put to much blame on her. She she also felt, that he didn't love her and tried to appeal to him. She did try. His decisions and not his registered products. Shouldn't have registered them to begin with. Not even if he tried to escape a trap he not even willingly entered, but also helped to create.

She wasn't going to have business with Tobia's firm due to awkwardness anyway. Now she has 2 reasons to boycott and go with a rival supplier. With all her patents, she'll have them banging on her doorstep.

He isn't even the heir to his company. Once those patents get shifted over and the supply contract annulled and given to a rival firm, that new fiance will probably have second thoughts about their engagement too.

No, I have read the other story and that's why I said the whole theory. When he about to support her isn't Dahlia's words that stopped him from doing so? She's too strong and trying not to bother Tobias with her sadness, that's a good thing but at the same time I can understand Tobias anxiety that his partner isn't opening to him and she indeed closing her heart. Even if she did it with good intention but when your partner of life isn't saying what she likes or dislikes, worries or happiness, naturally you begin to think what's wrong.

And sorry but about the "if she refused his demands he will distance himself" is a bit weak for a reason, since first it's based only on how you think of his action and thoughts so far but most important is Dahlia never said what she dislike to Tobias herself. Like I said above she's just trying to be a perfect wife but all she did achieve is became a robot and not a partner of life, that's why even though Tobias is an ass but Dahlia is not completely on the right side either.

Still, my opinion will became a dust once there's a proof that Dahlia once express his will to Tobias but he ignore her. Until then, I will treat Dahlia as a girl trying to be perfect but ended in a wrong way. A good intention is not always became a good outcome, that's a fact.

Sorry to hear that and yeah I agree with you.
I never said Tobias isn't wrong at all, he did his share of errors (lots even) but so did Dahlia. It just when I read the comments it's as if Dahlia a saint without fault and Tobias a total villain, that's wrong in my opinion. While it's not comparable to what Tobias did to her but what she did is not completely right either, I just want people to know that. The author also trying to convey this and even made it into the main plot, that Dahlia recognize that holding herself back is no good for her and decide to became happy for herself this time.

Other than their marriage relationship, I can't defend Tobias for his other action at all, especially the copyrights and house incident. What he did is total shit.
