Title and chapter comments on the new system, and general chatting and discussion here in the forums (so yeah, lurkers, you can keep lurking as you've been doing up until now).

I imagine there will still be a link to a forum thread for each chapter, right?

Because if we can't have chapter discussion in the forums, that is a downgrade. Chapter comments in a social network style will never work out like now. You just can't have a discussion like that. Plus I imagine they'd be very short.

It would be good to actually make the plans clear in the announcement and maybe clarify that in the "popup" so it trips up fewer people like me.

Also does not make the EA less ominous, unless that refers to new features being first unlocked for supporters as "Group 1" (which would be fair imo).

It does. It's how they're handling access to Feed as well. This was explained before, if I recall correctly.

How long will this “test period” for the comment system last? Right now, only users with permission to comment can create forum threads.

so we don't have to go to the comments to get to the forum comments

Is there any way that the 'Create Forum Thread' button could be anywhere else? In my opinion, having it hidden behind those three dots will cause people (ie newbies) to never make forum threads, and instead just use the main site comment section.

EDIT: You could even put it where it would be if there was already a forum thread created.

Though I don't know if this popup would be pushed to the very bottom if the conversation was full of comments.

Exactly this. I was so confused because when I try to go to the forum, it opens a blocked comments section, and I can't start a forum thread either.

Taking a closer look, it seems that having comments under a conversation will cause the 'Read X older comments' thing to disappear, so you have to use the three dots I guess. What a weird spot.

Oh boy... The change has arrived. I have already stated my opinion on this; I guess we will have to see how things pan out. Hopefully people will still use the forums after this, or at least, meaningful discussion will not be killed...

Either way, I wish we could view a chapter's comments without marking it as read. Before, clicking the comment icon would just send you to the forum page; now, it shows the comments in the reader sidebar, a side consequence of which is that the chapter is also loaded.

I personally really liked having the comments separate from the manga itself. Having embedded comments honestly makes me less likely to become a supporter. Comments are the theft of joy on the internet. But I do want to support Mangadex but would honestly appreciate a way to straight up turn off comments if embedded are the new norm.
