MC should have let some get away. To tell about the terror in the forest. Instead he annihilated them all except the ones who heeded his warning...
It's that thing, you know, 'no news is good news'?

@ShinGetsu The quality of the force isn't really an issue, it's the size. 400-500 people moving in force leaves a really wide wake, regardless how skilled they are. The only thing that would be hard to prove would be the prince's involvement, not that the force trespassed on forbidden land.

@welcome2atlantis Several soldiers are still alive, everyone who left together with that guy who got fired. Probably even some inside the dungeon, still running around hallucinating weird shit but those guys were all weak and useless, very likely expendable from the very beginning.
Them not coming back is already a report in itself

the fact that everyone that listened to the warning is alive, and everyone that didn't is dead, is plenty of info.

@welcome2atlantis I don't think he cares if they all die, just so long as they get the picture to not come to the forest. You don't kill ever pest that enters your house. You take measures to usually keep them out.

I do wonder if that lord wants to get into contact with Yuki and possibly wants to use that knight who got fired for listening to Yuki.

So he never even got to relay maou's message? Thats almost dumb enough to be a plothole but okay, I can accept that the prince is dumb.

Well, there it is. Just having some large warband march into the forest doesn't really prove anything.

For now, all the landlord has is one of the soldiers who escaped and got dismissed. The soldier too is in the dark about the whole plot, but at the very least, the landlord might be able to find out who the employer is and work his way up from there.

Now that I think about it, does the landlord even suspect the prince? He doesn't have any info really other than a large group of men walking into the forest. Talking to one of the survivors is really just the first step.

@jonsmth A large warband risking retaliation is grounds for royal intervention, though. He probably knows about the noble accompanying them, and I doubt said noble is foreign. If he is, even bigger issue.

The King declared the forest off-limits, meaning anyone entering without the King's permission can expect punishment.

@cor3zone - a large warband acting without king's approval is a sign the king isn't really ruling his country, and you can't rely on him.

@flannan Or just a sign of rebellion. The King being the best ruler ever would not mean there couldn't be people who disagreed or were corrupt. He's one man, and can't control the minds of his people. All not being equal, happy people and angry people can exist at the same time, for the same reasons.

News takes a while to reach the ears of the king. Even then, information could be controlled since the perpetrators are inside the country. 500 men marching into the forest? Nope, we didn't see anything like that.

Dismissing the soldier tho was really dumb. It's convenient for the landlord and to move the plot forward, but makes the competence of the prince and his supporters inconsistent. Maybe it's part of the plan? The hooded guy mentioned something about a plan.

I doubt that the king is conspiring with the prince since he has already rejected the prince's suggestion to retaliate. The conspiracy is being done behind the king, and I bet the prince is just being manipulated (that hooded guy seems suspicious).

The noble doesn't have to be foreign, but they didn't need to be on the same side as the king either. They're in it for glory and renown. The king can't always know what all his subjects are doing.

@flannan
Not every warband has to be affiliated with the kingdom to be needing approval of the king to move around
Even if that warband was deemed to be a threat that needs subjugating, 500 is a large number, and it would take a while to muster enough men and prepare enough supplies to feasibly subjugate a force of that size

@jonsmth In a feudal system, the feudal lords report directly to the King. Landlord would be able to contact the King directly if he wanted, and the message wasn't intercepted. He didn't, which points to scheming. I just hope in favor of peace, not the prince.
The prince is blatantly incompetent. I think it's quite clear Hood is manipulating him. And you're right, the King conspiring makes no sense.
About the noble, exactly my point. If he isn't foreign, he's breaking the King's edict. If he is, he's an invader. Either way, the King needs to be informed, and would probably intervene. Seems like Landlord isn't content with just that though, and wants more evidence.
Hood's plotting is intriguing.

What I meant about not seeing the 500 men was not seeing them assemble and then march into the forest. iirc, the landlord only knew of them when they were already in the forest. early sightings from scouts and travelers on the countryside could have reached any lords' ears but that was probably controlled. there was simply not enough time to preempt them.

The noble probably sympathized with the prince's "ideals". That means he could always say that he was doing it for the king and country. Though for him to be so far out into the front lines, he was likely ambitious, gullible, and disposable.

@jonsmth Doesn't matter when he learned of the force, he should have immediately reported. We haven't seen him do it yet. Landlord seems loyal, to his people at least, and should want aid as fast as possible. By the pact he made with Yuki, he should already have been a dead man walking the moment the first soldier entered the forest. Makes for a strong incentive to stop them as soon as possible. The fact that he's scheming instead suggest he wants a bigger prize.
