Once Bravedude8 busts out the greentext against you, you know you've been BTFO.

i think the reason you were not taken as seriously as you wanted to is because, as far as i know, this conversation already happened multiple times and...
Dunno. What did it for me was the "holier than thou" attitude and shitting on the community.

Huh, i didn't think of that, it didn't bug me as much, but it's probably because i have dealt with people like that before.

After getting thrown under the bus, Plykiya is about to join Hola very SoonTM.
Well, nice knowing you Plykiya, your translations will be missed.

Karma systems do not work. This has even been studied. The results, in summary, were about like: positive karma does not lead to person posting better content in the future. Negative karma DOES lead to person posting worse content in the future. In other words, karma/rating/approval/whatever systems are negative reinforcement loops.

Despite the relatively high concentration of memes and reaction gifs, I'm surprised this topic didn't get derailed much.

What I've noticed is that the karma like systems doesn't get people to post better comments, it gets them to post more comments. One good comment, or just a statement that a ton of people agree with will overshadow a good amount of the bad comments.

This is the exact description of what disqus, facebook and reddit uses. This kind of karma rating will only show how many people agreed on that person on that particular subject.
As you and many other said one popular but otherwise "stupid" comment overshadows other comments and indeed is a very badly flawed system.

My version shows the persons whole avarage record in a simple decimal fraction number. So on the long run you have to be helpful if wanted to be taken seriously.
It's the same thing as the manga rating, but the one you rate is the user's credibility so to speak. I made the mistake of saying this is similar to reddit but it has absolutely nothing to do with it.
I merely mentioned reddit's rating among others because this site has none like it at all while others where comments matter a lot does!
Anyways, this topic is bound to be locked down just wanted to try clarifying this one last time.

Yeah, that's censorship. How about absolutely no?

I just hate your proposal so much, like the dozen times others brought it up. The average user should not have that power.

9/10 comment. I give it a 👍

Because of my approval of your comment, others will be more likely to approve of it as well. You're welcome

I have no clue what you're talking about but it seems like a popular opinion so have 10/10 👍

This is exactly what I would favor over, except the reactions should not limit to agreement only. There can be disagreement and many other kinds.

You can't expect a person to be right on ANY subject, at any point in time with the SAME credibility they have.

Assuming all of the users strive to make useful comments. The one with more credibility will have more weight in a particular subject?

Assuming ones with same credibility gained from opposite methods or topics, should they have the same weight in all subjects?

This is too a flawed system, as much as I can see compare to the reaction one. The question is which will fit more in MD.
