Anyone else feels like the inner dialogue fromt the MC is off? Like what kinda guy feels like heartache goes away just from being in a safe space? Also this guy straight up cries a lot. Like a lot a lot. Kaiji crying I get because it’s life or death shit and insane stress/relief. But this guy should be acting a lot more self withdrawn or self destructive as men usually turn pain inwards and do not seek comfort. It just seems like the inner dialogue is that of a woman in pain rather than a guy. Shit on me all yall want but I’m waiting for more mangas accurately to tackle the pain men feel in the way that men feel. This one only gets things like half right, if even.
Men being unable to cry or avoiding tears isn't innate. It's something we learn from other men (and also women). It's a self-replicating norm where many of us end up thinking "that's how things should be". IMO Kaede was probably lucky enough to be surrounded by people who didn't make him feel bad about crying. And he's young too, so maybe the whole "men don't cry" brainwashing didn't take hold yet?

Notice how he felt ashamed in front of the coffee shop lady and apologized for causing a scene. But fortunately she dismissed this rhetoric and reminded him that everybody should be allowed to cry when they need to.

I hear you when you say that for many men coping with distress and trauma would probably look more like withdrawing, self harm, delinquency or substance abuse. That's because acknowledging and expressing our emotions is often impossible or taboo. That doesn't mean that Kaede is wrong as a fictional dude. He's just slightly different. I can relate to him, can't you?

Heavy spoilers from they newest chapters un japanese, read at your own risk
Rio is kinda sus. She has her own set of problems, seemingly from commitment. She has a hook up/ fwb at they least, she does see kaede as a kid, like a little brother or a nephew.
Kaede develops feelings for her and confeses, she initially rejects him but after another talk she asks him to accompany her shopping, calling it a date.

Honestly at this point I think its better to leave the girl alone... this is just not going to work... feels like she accepted as well.
I think she is critical to the story. I feel she doesn't want to lose hope to have a first true love, but having so many landmines planted on her head is going to be a real challenge. Or she decides to accept him as he is, or she will become obsessed with the manly dirty parts as she mentioned before (this thanks to her distorted perspective caused by a wrong research and listening to people's wisdom)

thats mostly my point, its too many hurdles for a young inexperienced teenager.... tahts why I think its completly acceptable for her to just step back.... for sure its not an easy situation to deal.

Fair points all around. But personally, I just can’t relate to the MC at all. The most relatable characters I find in this whole manga are his bros since they are just supportive and aren’t jusgemental. But even then I’m getting very suspicious of their timing since they seems to show up right after shit goes bad. That’s beside your points, though.

IMO, it would make more sense for the MC to open up to his buddies and have the manga focus on how having fellow male support can help heal rather pain than getting it twisted by facing it alone. But the guy just keeps falling into the laps of women who he feels comfortable with which is extremely atypical. Like I know this story takes place after he’s dealt with the worst of any potential issues that may have come up, but he seems like the kinda lad that cries at rainbows moreso than his trauma. Yeah, this is a fictional story, but this fella has more harem protag energy than suffering guy energy.

Ok I'm just glad the cafe lady didn't do anything and isn't the sensei somehow.

Lol bruh... I'm sorry, I know this chapter is supposed to be serious, I can't help but laugh, that woman is way too gorgeous and the way she's being so nice to him, red flags flaring up everywhere in my mind. 🙈
