The friend is like "I'm so much better than my friend b/c I can steal their partner". The cheating partner feels like they're smart/strategic for pulling it off w/o their partner suspecting or that they're so important to their partner that the partner won't leave even if they know.

Yeah tends to be a popular soap opera trope and existing stories but yeah it’d be quite expensive to cheat with a foreigner unless ur rich or go on constant “business trips” (plus i had few friends as it is so i def wouldn't have done that/ already been close enough to not rly need to cheat as my friend group was affectionate minus like cheek kissing but shame open relationships/polycules aren't more of a thing in JP outside of harem tropes)

From what I saw in high school there was like a one week etiquette of waiting before a breakup before making a move on ur friends ex but I guess with social media these days or close neighborhoods an d hanging out together outside of school prolly easier to sneak around these days social media leaks aside

yeah other than some like, gay affair or prostitute, some ppl go baby-crazy (yet you never really see stories /anecdotes about them being doting grandparents after the kids there)

That's explicitly cause they want the kid for status/legacy/an heir. They usually end up extremely domineering. It used to be fairly common for shoujo, and is now more common in webtoons, to have either a love interest or main character who is an illegitimate child & their grandma more often than not is awful to them & constantly holds the being illegitimate over their head. I think Ouran High School Host Club does a really good sympathetic version of this plotline.

Can't remember the names but I'm fairly certain I've read a couple of shoujo/josei where the lead suspects/catches her boyfriend cheating and is pressured into staying with him and part of the pressure is that it's normative - either her father or father in law also cheats. Yakuza stories especially have this expectation - Yakuza Fiance takes this to the max cause the fml is fairly indifferent to her partner at first.
