Unpopular comment but not really sure im on board with how Mahoro apparently having no problem lying straight to people's faces, all while being hypocritical at the exact same time, when all she has are hunches and guesses.

For example the whole baby comment thing. "You like talking about the baby when it's convenient for you?" Are you not doing the exact same thing here? Bringing up the baby when it suits your own ends? Girl literally just ask him why he hasn't tried having a baby with you yet. If he tries to cut you off just ask again literally right after. Like you just did here. Talk girl!

At least with Rei we still have yet to see if all or anything he's said/done with Mahoro since the marriage has all been lies or not. But with Mahoro we are actively seeing this so there's no debate. All of her actions will make sense if she's right in the end. But man if she isn't.

So far it just seems Rei has been negligent or lazy or w/e, with the potential for all of it to have been malicious, but now it seems Mahoro wants to be actively malicious all based on her assumption that Rei is cheating with Rio.

Like from Rei's perspective, did he say anything wrong in this chapter? Is it not at the very least, a question or concern for a pregnant mother to work full time? Granted, this is all under the assumption that Rei does want to be a father with Mahoro, but for some unknown reason hasn't been having sex with her for awhile. Of course if Rei is actually cheating then screw him of course.

Also, Rei says he will cover the extra costs right? Don't you think if a husband was cheating with you. That he would WANT you to be full time? Since then you're even more busy then before and then he would have more available time to cheating?

God, even that whole picture of thinking that him saying no to you is really just about some power fantasy of him having power over you? How? What power do you think he has over you in the marriage as a result of you working part time rather than full time? Like it makes sense if she's 100% going to divorce, to get a full time position before that. But dont try to invent an excuse for why he said no initially. You're doing this not because he's having some mental sick play of power fantasies. You're doing this because you want a divorce. Thats it. Be honest.

Mahoro is actively imagining scenarios to make the slightest pushback against her desires seem like only an evil person could do it.

It's much more common in japan than america for families to have a single breadwinner while the other is a full-time homemaker. They have a far lower ratio of working women than men, though this is starting to change a bit


Also, alimony is often much more of a short-term thing in Japan than in America so it's important for her to start saving now while she can

the cheating at this point is completely irrelevant my dude, he's been talking about having a baby since chapter 1 while not having sex with her, he is completely uncaring and oblivious as to how this might appear to her, the most likely scenario is that he's been wanting out of the relationship for a while and he doesn't wanna get tied down to her

and yeah no shit she wants a divorce, she's outright saying as much, she's not lying to herself about it, but how exactly would it seem to you when you partner is saying "don't get a job, a pregnant woman shouldn't work, I'll cover the costs" while not wanting to actually get you pregnant for god knows how long? that would appear like an attempt to be controlling, but I imagine in this case it's more to do with his mom and the values she instilled into him, she's also probably the reason he doesn't wanna just break it off, he can have this illusion of a perfect life to sell to her so she doesn't lose her shit when she finds out her son is gonna get divorced

by now the mc is already out, she just wants to avoid having a huge argument that will lead nowhere, and give herself some time to get a full time job so she doesn't have to scramble with 0 options once the relationship is over

In reality, you’d hope that two grown adults would just have an open, honest conversation, but that would kill 99% of romance stories in the first 5 minutes. I think accepting that people in stories don’t act like people in reality is just part of the required suspension of disbelief.

And there’s also the cultural angle. I think the way adults interact with each other varies pretty widely across the globe, but from this American outsider’s perspective, a Japanese husband controlling the household or making the financial decisions seems pretty standard.

Also, I think it’s just human nature that everyone feels like the main character of their own story. We judge other people by their actions and we judge ourselves by our intentions. Once you’ve made up your mind to dislike someone, it becomes very easy to cast all of their actions in a negative light. I guess my point is that I don’t really disagree with anything you said, but I accept that it’s fairly human and even main characters should be flawed.

I think there have been jdrama/manga where the husband is getting the 'allowance' despite being an office worker since the wife balances the checkbooks at home or so for groceries/errands(?), even if there's also a 'drinking culture' where the boss drags you/pressures you into after work drinks with other coworkers or so

I wonder if his dad is still around or retired , be ironic if his dad also cheated and it was either an open secret or just never set a good example
