yeah i called the vibe between rio and itsuki ages ago. he was always acting all mysterious and superior with mahoro and judging her decisions without offering anything of his own. i also smiled at the video reveal because of how damning the evidence was, but it could have been damning without showing her naked in front of strangers, i still feel bad for her because of that and obviously now we know he treats her like shit daily. call me a radical feminist but i even feel sorry for the mom. society tells women their job is to show unconditional motherly love and be a housewife and have no life outside of their husband and son, but then she gets blamed for a grown man's behavior because it's her fault for spoiling the kid? rei can still tell her to back off but he takes advantage of it. if she abandoned and slapped him y'all would still say it's too late, and rei would hold a grudge against her for life and she would have to rethink so much without any social support.

I chalk it up to the emotional whiplash. One moment, Rio is being utterly vile. The next, you're watching a porn show. Then, she's dragged out by her hair by a victim of cheating. I'd be confused as well, feeling she deserves to suffer for her behavior but only realizing too late how fucked up it actually was.

Ultimately though, when given shit cards, Rio chose to make her closest friends suffer, getting used condoms on Mahoro's door for no reason except some fucked up sense of superiority. It's the right thing to do, but i wouldn't blame Mahoro if she felt she doesn't owe her a police call.
i also think in that situation intervening would have made it worse. unfortunately in real life a lot of people including the police would agree that she deserves that treatment because she cheated and isn't as high status as her husband. and as sad as it is, she's probably used to it and knows how to appease him better without any outside variables. mahoro's intervening in the naked dogeza thing was enough to not let her feel like she's alone which is usually a big reason it's important for someone to speak up.

You have proof of infidelity and witnesses. The old hag has no say to that.

On that note, drag her on as well for emotional abuse.

It's super common in patriarchal societies for mothers to basically use their sons as an outlet to assert themselves, because in those societies men are the only ones who have value, thus a son is the only way a mother has to be valuable, since he's the only man she has "control" over, so she must defend him at all costs because that's also defending her place of value. And then her son must go out into the world and do what she experienced to another woman. It's a self-perpetuating cycle of shittiness.

Of course this doesn't absolve the MIL from her horrible attitude, but we can always take a step back and see that there's a bigger societal context that leads to situations like this.

No one is ever gonna defend cheating, what Rio and Mahato's husband did was absolutely wrong, but from the looks of it, it seems like Itsuki either used to or is going to be physically abusive to Rio. That also isn't acceptable at all. Please don't let it be the case. :qq:

And the author keeps on dropping bombs in their afterwords one after the another.

She readily agreed to stripping naked in a room full of people as punishment which suggests this isnt the first time he’s given that request and then literally dragged his wife out by her hair as she screamed to be let go and about how he was always a cold husband. That screams to a pretty clear history of abuse

others have also argued that he didn’t want to dump her after he found out she was cheating because he wanted to use that as leverage to control/abuse her further.

and as for the sex tape, I think that was her own escape. Just like how mc is working more so she can divorce her husband. She might’ve been hoping to use the profits from the tape to escape her own marriage.
1st that isn't evidence. Infact that doesn't even make sense. His motivation was to embarrass her. If she was constantly doing it she wouldn't be embarrassed about it and if she is embarrased about it why would she continue to do the thing that got her in the embarrasing situation. She was just trying to get off scot free because that's the only way he would accept their apology. Scorched earth behavior.

2nd She wasn't dragged out by her hair. He raised her head by the hair. which is rough i admit but thats not evidence of continued behavior since again this was the only time of note of him doing anything to her. He grabbed her hand he adjusted his posture and pulled her out of the room by putting his arm around her.
